fix: header-and-hero - Align the header, centre the mega menus, hide Pricing and tighten the blog hero (BugHerd #268, #269, #270) - #167
BugHerd tasks #268 (mega menus), #269 (header width) and #270 (blog hero gap) on the LightSpeedWP.Agency project. No Linear issue. A request to hide the Pricing menu until launch is also included; it has no BugHerd task.
Summary
Four header and hero issues on the staging site, fixed together because three of them sit in the header and the fourth is the spacing directly beneath it.
Mega menus open from the same point (#268)
On desktop, Work and Solutions opened about 100px further right than About, Insights and Services, and none opened at the screen centre. The Ollie mega-menu plugin positions a panel against the navigation list (which sits off-centre between the logo and the buttons) and only centres items that carry its menu-justified-center option, which Work and Solutions lack.
src/scss/structural/_mega-menu.scss: at 1024px and up, the navigation wrappers are made static so every panel resolves against the header, and the plugin's own centred offset is applied to all of them. The plugin sets each panel's top inline, so the vertical gap is restored with a margin. animations.css is rebuilt.
The mobile menu uses accordions, not panels, so it needed no mega menu change.
Header lines up with the content (#269)
The logo and the "Start a project" button stayed 64px from the screen edges on wide screens while the content stops at the wide size.
patterns/header.php: the header row is wide-aligned inside a constrained header, with the same side padding as the page sections (spacing 30), so it matches the content at every width.
Blog hero gaps (#270)
patterns/hero/blog-hero.php, patterns/sections/blog-all-articles.php, patterns/sections/blog-engagement.php: margin-top: 0 on the hero and the two bands after it, as the other hero patterns do, which removes the 20px root block gaps between them. The Writing CTA card is unchanged.
patterns/hero/blog-hero.php: the hero's top padding goes from spacing 80 to spacing 40, so the breadcrumb sits 26px below the header instead of 48px. This is a trial of the value before the same change is batched across the other heroes.
Pricing hidden until launch
inc/header.php: a render_block filter drops the Pricing mega menu from the header navigation. The item lives in the database navigation post, so a filter avoids a manual edit on every site.
parts/mobile-menu.html: the Pricing accordion is removed.
The pricing-mega-menu template part, its theme.json registration and the pricing pages are untouched. Delete ls_theme_hide_pricing_mega_menu() and restore the accordion to bring the menu back.
Investigated, not changed
The footer's "Pricing" column heading and the /pricing/ links in other patterns are left as they are, since only the header and mobile menu were in scope.
Accessibility findings that already exist on DEV and are not caused by this change: with the mobile menu open, axe reports nested-interactive (a link inside each accordion <summary>) and target-size (links 14px high, WCAG 2.5.8 needs 24px); the homepage has no <main> landmark.
Scope and exclusions
Only the four items above. No new tokens, no block or section styles, no plugin changes.
Review size: 9 files, 84 added and 43 removed lines, excluding the compiled assets/css/animations.css (generated output, 1 line).
Deploy note: saved copies in the database override theme files. After deploy, the DEV Header part may need clearing in the Site Editor, and DEV's saved "Blog Home" template (the posts page) holds the old blog layout without the margin fix. Clearing "Blog Home" would fall back to the plain post list because the theme has no home.html, so it needs a decision before it is reset.
Screenshots/video
None attached. The measurements below are from the local site, and the header, mega menu and blog hero changes are visible on / and /blog/.
Accessibility notes
Keyboard (local): Tab order through the header is logical with a visible focus ring on every stop; Enter and Space open a mega menu, aria-expanded updates, Tab enters the panel and Escape closes it and returns focus to the button; the mobile menu traps focus and Escape returns focus to the hamburger.
Accessibility tree: the header is a banner with a "Main Navigation" landmark, the logo is announced as "LightSpeed home", and the open menu reads as expanded with proper headings and links.
Test plan
npm run schema:validate, npm run lint:json and php -l on the five edited PHP files pass
npm run build:css exits 0 and leaves no diff after the committed rebuild
npm run lint:scss reports the same 1 error and 14 warnings as develop
Local site with the saved Header and Blog Archive copies cleared (so the theme files render): all five mega menu panels centre at the screen centre at 1024, 1280, 1440 and 1920px, and the mouse can travel from an item into its panel without it closing
Local: header edges match the content edges at 1024, 1280, 1440, 1920 and 2560px
Local: Pricing is gone from the desktop navigation and from the mobile menu, and the other accordions still open
Local /blog/: no gap under the header or between the hero, All Articles and Engagement; the header-to-breadcrumb gap is 26px at 1920, 1440, 768 and 390px
Keyboard checks on the header, mega menus and mobile menu as described above
Playwright standing specs (accessibility, network-errors, runtime-errors, responsive-overflow) pass on local / in chromium and Mobile Chrome; on /blog/ accessibility, network-errors and runtime-errors pass and responsive-overflow fails on the Writing CTA button at 320px, which fails identically on develop
Screen reader pass (VoiceOver or NVDA) on the header and menus
After deploy to DEV: reset the saved Header part and decide how to reset "Blog Home", then re-check the header, mega menus and blog hero there
Block editor: header and blog hero patterns look right in the Site Editor

Changelog
meta:needs-changelog: user-facing header, navigation and spacing fixes. The entry is in CHANGELOG.md under [Unreleased].
…Pricing and tighten the blog hero (BugHerd #268, #269, #270)
Mega menus (#268)
- Open every Ollie mega-menu panel from the centre of the header, on desktop (1024px and up)
- Work and Solutions opened about 100px further right because they lack the plugin's menu-justified-center option
- Make the navigation wrappers static and anchor the panels to the header, using the plugin's own centred offset
- Restore the panel's vertical gap with a margin, since the plugin sets top inline
- Rebuild animations.css
Header width (#269)
- Wide-align the header row inside a constrained header, so it caps at the wide size
- Use the page sections' side padding (spacing 30) instead of spacing 100
- The logo and buttons now line up with the content at every width instead of sitting 64px from the screen edges
Blog hero (#270)
- Set margin-top 0 on the blog hero, All Articles and Engagement sections, as the other hero patterns do
- Remove the 20px root block gaps between them
- Leave the Writing CTA card unchanged
- Lower the blog hero's top padding from spacing 80 to spacing 40, so the breadcrumb sits 26px below the header instead of 48px
- Use the blog hero as the trial for the breadcrumb spacing before the other heroes are batched
Pricing
- Hide the Pricing mega menu from the header navigation with a render_block filter in inc/header.php
- The filter avoids a manual edit of the database navigation post on every site
- Remove the Pricing accordion from parts/mobile-menu.html
- Keep the pricing-mega-menu template part and the pricing pages untouched
Docs
- Add the CHANGELOG.md entry under Unreleased
- Add the task-list.md line
Testing
- Local: all five mega menu panels centre at the screen centre at 1024, 1280, 1440 and 1920px
- Local: header edges match the content edges at 1024 to 2560px, and the mouse can travel from an item into its panel
- Local: Pricing is gone from the desktop nav and the mobile menu
- Local: the gap from the header to the blog breadcrumb is 26px at 1920, 1440, 768 and 390px
- Standing specs pass on local / and /blog/ in chromium and Mobile Chrome, apart from the existing Writing CTA button overflow at 320px
- schema:validate and php -l pass, and lint:scss is unchanged from the baseline
- Saved Header and Blog Archive copies in the local database were cleared to test the theme files
- Not yet verified on DEV, which has its own saved templates to reset
…he blog hero padding (BugHerd #268, #269, #270)
Changelog
- Add the PR #167 link to the header and hero entry
- Add the blog hero top padding change to the entry

Explanation
The title names the header alignment, mega-menu centring, Pricing removal, and blog hero tightening, which are all changes in the changeset. It also lists the BugHerd issue numbers. The title is long (129 characters, 21 words) and lists four changes. It still covers the main changes and is not misleading, so it passes. The title uses 'centre' while the code and changelog use the American spelling 'center'. This does not affect the check result.

Context
- CodeRabbit noted the changelog only said to delete the function
Docs fix

…blocks in the editor (BugHerd #268, #269, #270)
Cause
- core/image save() never writes width/height as <img> attributes
- Markup had width="419" height="90", so the editor saw a mismatch
- Header, footer and mobile menu logos showed "Block contains unexpected or invalid content"
Fix
- Remove width/height from the <img> tags in patterns/header.php
- Remove width/height from the <img> tags in patterns/site-logo-switcher.php (shared by footer and mobile menu)
- Add aspect-ratio: 419 / 90 to the logo images in _header.scss to keep the layout-shift protection from #34
- Rebuild assets/css/animations.css

Remove Pricing from the mobile-menu test expectations.
npm run test:mobile runs tests/specs/mobile-menu.spec.ts in the Mobile Chrome, Mobile Safari, and Tablet projects. That spec still generates three Pricing tests, but parts/mobile-menu.html contains no Pricing accordion. The Pricing tests can therefore fail while locating or expanding the missing element. Remove Pricing from ACCORDIONS; do not restore it in production markup.
