fix: hero-breadcrumbs - Tighten the breadcrumb gap under the header on the spacing 80 heroes (batch 1 of 2) - #168
Followed by: batch 2 of the breadcrumb gap work (the spacing 90, 100 and 60 heroes), opened as the next layer.
Review scope: the top padding of ten hero patterns and the changelog and task list entries only.
Summary
The gap between the header and the breadcrumb is too large on the hero patterns. The breadcrumb is the first element in each hero, so the gap is exactly the hero's top padding, which was spacing|80 (48px) in this group. #167 trialled spacing|40 (26px) on the blog hero; this PR applies the same value to the other heroes that used spacing|80.
Hero patterns
The outer section's top padding goes from spacing|80 to spacing|40, in both the block comment and the inline style, in:
The whole hero moves up by the same amount, because nothing sits above the breadcrumb.
Not changed
The heroes at spacing|90, spacing|100 and spacing|60 are left for batch 2.
The shared breadcrumbs pattern (used by the page, archive and taxonomy templates) is already 20px and is untouched.
Pages built from these patterns hold their own copy of the hero in the database, so they only change once their saved markup is updated. This PR changes pattern files only; the page copies are updated per environment separately.
Scope and exclusions
Ten pattern files, two lines each, plus CHANGELOG.md and .github/tasks/task-list.md: 12 files, 31 added and 20 removed lines. No generated files are involved.
Screenshots/video
None attached. The change is a spacing value, and the measurements are in the test plan.
Test plan
php -l passes on all ten patterns and npm run schema:validate passes
npm run build:css exits 0 and leaves no diff
Local: eight pages built from these patterns were re-attached to the new padding (writing straight to the database to keep their pattern names), and the header-to-breadcrumb gap measures 26px at 1440px on /free-consultation/, /about/culture/, /about/team/, /about/careers/, /about/history/, /contact/ and /solutions/wordpress/; /popup-button-testing/ is a test page with extra content above its breadcrumb, so its gap is larger
Local: /portfolio/ (work hero), a project page (work single hero) and a blog post (blog single hero) measure 26px, with no other change needed because they render from the pattern files
Playwright standing specs (accessibility, runtime-errors, responsive-overflow) pass in chromium and Mobile Chrome on /contact/, /about/culture/, /portfolio/ and a project page
Visual review of the eleven pages above in light and dark mode and at phone width
After deploy to DEV: update the saved copies of the hero on DEV's pages (48 pages hold a breadcrumb), then re-check them
Block editor: the ten patterns look right when inserted

Relates to the breadcrumb spacing trial in #167. No closing keyword, because batch 2 follows.
Reduced top padding across ten hero layouts from 48px to 26px, moving breadcrumbs and hero content higher on the page. Bottom and side padding remain unchanged.
Hero layouts using spacing values 90, 100, or 60 are unchanged in this update.

Walkthrough
Ten hero patterns now use spacing preset 40 instead of 80 for outer section top padding. The changelog records the change and remaining work. The task list marks the spacing-80 task complete and lists spacing-90, spacing-100, and spacing-60 heroes as pending.
The ten hero patterns change their top padding from spacing preset 80 to 40. Other padding values remain unchanged. The changelog notes that saved database markup requires updates and defers spacing-90, spacing-100, and spacing-60 heroes to batch 2. The task list records completed and pending tasks.
The scoped spacing updates are ready to merge with normal checks.

Explanation
The title names the main change: tightening the breadcrumb gap under the header on the spacing 80 heroes. The PR changes top padding from spacing|80 to spacing|40 on ten hero patterns, which moves the breadcrumb and hero content up. The title also notes the batch 1 of 2 scope, which matches the summary, since spacing 90, 100, and 60 heroes are deferred. The title is specific and accurate, so it passes.

…n the spacing 80 heroes (batch 1 of 2)
Hero patterns
- Lower the outer section's top padding from spacing 80 to spacing 40, so the breadcrumb sits 26px below the header instead of 48px
- Cover 10 patterns: hero-lede-actions-ticks, hero-split-form, hero-split-glance-support, hero-split-glance, hero-split-index-card, hero-split-photo, hero-split-proof, blog-single-hero, work-hero and work-single-hero
- The breadcrumb is the first element in each, so the whole hero moves up by the same amount
- Use the value trialled on the blog hero
Docs
- Add the CHANGELOG.md entry under Unreleased
- Add the batch 1 and batch 2 lines to task-list.md
Scope
- Leave the spacing 90, 100 and 60 heroes for batch 2
- Leave the shared breadcrumbs pattern alone, since it is already 20px
- Pages built from these patterns keep their own copy of the hero in the database, so they change only when their saved markup is updated
Testing
- Local: 8 pages re-attached to the new padding, and all measure a 26px gap at 1440px, apart from the test page popup-button-testing, which has extra content above its breadcrumb
- Local: /portfolio/, a project page and a blog post also measure 26px
- Accessibility, runtime errors and horizontal overflow pass on /contact/, /about/culture/, /portfolio/ and a project page, in chromium and Mobile Chrome
- php -l passes on all 10 patterns
- Not yet verified on DEV, whose pages still hold the old copies
Context
- CodeRabbit asked whether batch 1 covers saved pages too
Docs fix
- Note the task covers pattern sources only
- Saved pages update separately from their own markup
