📝 WalkthroughSummary by CodeRabbit
WalkthroughPending CSS transition starts now use keyed ChangesPending transition retry flow
Estimated code review effort: 3 (Moderate) | ~20 minutes Mergeability Score: 🟡 Moderate · up to The change consolidates pending transition retries and replaces superseded starts, but a queued start can still recreate animation state after cleanup. That may leave stale transitions active, so the PR needs a fix or explicit owner acceptance before merge. Possibly related PRs

A start whose View has not mounted yet retries on the next frame. Each one posted its own Choreographer callback, so a screen appearing with transitions on many views posted one callback per waiting transition per frame. They now share a single callback that walks the pending starts and reschedules only while any remain.
Keying pending starts by transition also removes the start tokens: a newer start for the same key replaces the pending entry, so a superseded request cannot begin.
What the retry prevents
The retry itself predates this PR; the recordings show what it is for. Cold start of a probe app: a row flips opacity 0.15 -> 1 in a layout effect, so every start command races its View's mount. The white-bordered box has no transition and marks the frame React commits the bright value; the others have an 8s opacity transition.
Both apps at the same age, shortly after the row appears:
Retrying removed - the starts land before their Views exist and are dropped; the row pops in fully bright and the fade never runs:
retry-off-race.mp4
With the retry - the parked starts begin about 180ms later, seeked past the wait, and the 8s fade plays:
