Summary

  • Adds a first-reader skill to the writing plugin: simulate one or more concrete target readers going through a draft passage by passage and report exactly where each one leaned in or bailed, without rewriting the text.
  • Fills a gap readability (mechanical scan/grade checks) and humanizer (AI-tell removal) can't cover: both can pass a draft that still loses a real reader to jargon, a buried point, or an unpaid-off opening promise.
  • Bumps writing to 1.4.0 and updates the plugin's plugin.json, its README.md, and the root README.md.

Source: found via this week's commit-digest run — an ai-productivity-digest feed item (2026-09-13) describing an open-source "first-reader" agent skill concept. No source repo was linked, so this is an original implementation of the idea rather than an adaptation, matching the pattern the voice-profile skill already established for original additions to this plugin.

Test plan

  • claude plugin validate --strict passes for the marketplace and the writing plugin
  • uv run pytest -q — 740 passed, no regressions

Generated by Claude Code

Simulates a specific target reader passage by passage to report where
they'd lean in or bail — an attention/engagement check that readability
(mechanical scan checks) and humanizer (AI-tell removal) can both pass
while a real reader still gets lost. Report only, never rewrites.

Inspired by a commit-digest feed item about a "first-reader" agent skill.
