PhoneInput: full ITU-T E.164 country list + basic validation (#32) - #95
Expand PhoneInput's built-in country list from 50 to all 244 ITU-T E.164 entries, add a preferredCountries pin list, accept bare ISO strings in countries, and add opt-in basic E.164 validation — no new registry item and no runtime dependency.
Full country list: the table lives inside src/registry/components/phone-input.tsx. English names are derived at module load from Intl.DisplayNames, and flags from each ISO code's regional-indicator symbols, so neither strings nor flag glyphs are stored in the bundle. The original 50 keep their shipped order; the remaining ~194 are appended A–Z by English name (sorted with Intl.DisplayNames, so table order matches the runtime).
preferredCountries: pinned above a divider (classNames.preferredDivider), unioned into the menu even when absent from countries, deduplicated; navigation indices are unaffected.
countries widened to (Country | string)[] — bare ISO codes (e.g. ["IN","US","GB"]) resolve case-insensitively; unknown codes are dropped.
Validation: validate (default false) marks a non-empty malformed number aria-invalid; onValidityChange(valid, e164) reports validity and the normalized digits-only value (≤ 15 digits incl. country code) whenever the digits change. No libphonenumber. Empty is never marked invalid; a consumer's own aria-invalid in ...rest wins.

Summary by CodeRabbit
New Features
Expanded phone number country selection to approximately 244 E.164 countries, with country names and flags displayed.
Configure available countries using ISO codes or country details, and pin preferred countries to the top of the list.
Added optional E.164 validation, invalid-input indication, and validity updates with the normalized phone number.
Country-code detection now considers both available and preferred countries.
The interactive example displays the latest valid phone number or prompts for a valid entry.
Documentation
Updated the phone input guide and interactive example with country configuration, preferred-country, and validation details.
Expand the built-in country list from 50 to all 244 ITU-T E.164
entries. English names are derived at load from Intl.DisplayNames and
flags from the ISO code's regional-indicator symbols, so neither is
stored in the bundle; the original 50 keep their order, with the rest
appended A-Z.
Add preferredCountries (pinned above a divider, unioned into the menu)
and accept bare ISO strings in countries. Add opt-in basic E.164
validation: validate marks a malformed non-empty number aria-invalid and
onValidityChange(valid, e164) reports the normalized value. No new
dependency; country table lives inside the component.

Walkthrough
PhoneInput now supports approximately 244 E.164 countries, preferred-country ordering, and optional basic E.164 validation with validity callbacks. The demo, documentation, registry description, and tests reflect these changes.

The country catalog expands to approximately 244 entries, with names and flags derived from locale and ISO codes. countries accepts objects or ISO codes, while preferredCountries places selected entries first. Selection, dial-code detection, option dividers, tests, and documentation cover the expanded list behavior.

Optional validation normalizes input, checks allowed characters and the 15-digit limit, and reports validity with normalized E.164 values. Invalid non-empty input receives aria-invalid when validation is enabled. The demo displays the valid value, and tests cover callback and invalid-state behavior.

Full details: Linked Issues check
Explanation
Issue [#32] coding requirements are implemented at the reviewed head.
[#32] Full country list: DIAL_CODES in src/registry/components/phone-input.tsx stores ISO code and dial code pairs. The first 50 entries keep the original order. nameOf uses Intl.DisplayNames, and flagOf derives flags from regional-indicator code points. The summary states that the test suite checks the entry count, exact code membership against a hardcoded list, entry format, and flag derivation. This covers the acceptance test for valid ISO codes and +-prefixed dial codes.
[#32] Optional countries and preferredCountries: resolveCountries accepts Country objects or bare ISO strings, resolves them case-insensitively, drops unknown codes, and deduplicates by code while keeping input order. Input order sets display order, so the list can be restricted or reordered. Preferred entries are pinned above a divider and are added even when absent from countries. The summary states that tests cover ISO-string input and preferred ordering.
[#32] Basic validation: toE164 removes formatting characters, rejects unexpected characters, requires at least one digit, and enforces the 15-digit limit including the country code. A leading + is treated as the country code. validate marks only non-empty malformed input as aria-invalid. A consumer aria-invalid in ...rest takes precedence. onValidityChange(valid, e164) fires when the digits change. The summary states that tests cover the callback, normalization, length limits, malformed input, and aria-invalid precedence.
[#32] Bundle size: the PR description reports 123.21 KB raw and 27.60 KB gzip. This satisfies the acceptance item.
Limits: the file read was truncated at 16000 bytes before the menu rendering and callback code. For those parts, this assessment relies on the change summary and the test summary, which are consistent with the code read. Full per-country validation is out of scope under [#32], so its absence is not a gap.
Full details: Out of Scope Changes check
Explanation
All changed files relate to the requirements in [#32].
src/registry/components/phone-input.tsx: country table, countries and preferredCountries handling, dial-code detection over the offered list, toE164 validation, validate, onValidityChange, preferredDivider class name, and label and classNames props. These implement [#32].
test/phone-input.test.tsx: tests for the country table, ISO-string input, preferred countries, validity callbacks, and aria-invalid precedence. These verify [#32]. Keyboard expectations now reflect the expanded list.
test/menu-reopen.test.tsx: the matcher changes from /India/ to /India\+\d/. This is needed because the expanded list adds "British Indian Ocean Territory", which also matches the old pattern. It supports the expanded list.
vitest.config.ts: testTimeout raised to 10000 ms because the 244-option menu renders near the default 5000 ms limit. This supports the expanded list.
src/components/docs/phone-input-demo.tsx, content/docs/components/inputs/phone-input.mdx, content/docs/components/index.mdx, src/registry/registry.ts: documentation and demo updates for the new props and the 244-country count. These describe the implemented behavior.
No dependency change, new registry item, or unrelated feature is shown. The Country interface is unchanged. The changed PhoneInputProps and PhoneInputClassNames declarations are the additions required by [#32].

Assert the exact catalog size so a removed country fails the test.
The full-list test checks only COUNTRIES.length >= 240. Removing one row, such as AD (Andorra), leaves 243 rows and still passes. The catalog currently has 244 rows, so the current assertion does not detect a removed country. Other tests do not enforce the complete set. The count check at line 577 compares against COUNTRIES.length itself, and the keyboard tests check only that the last option is Zimbabwe.
The docs state that the component ships every E.164 country. An exact count makes the test fail when any row is removed. Update the count when the ITU-T list changes.

Document the menu as the union of countries and preferredCountries, add preferredDivider to the classNames list, correct remaining 50-country copy to ~244, uppercase-normalize the preferred-code dedup, reject a non-leading plus sign, and assert the exact E.164 table size.
Add an independent check for the full country membership.
The catalog test checks only the total count, the entry format, uniqueness, and five named dial codes (LK, NP, PE, MA, UA). If an intended country is replaced by another well-formed, unique entry, the count stays at 244 and every assertion still passes. The menu's default list is COUNTRIES, so the omitted country would not be offered. Add a membership check against an independent list of ISO codes, or against a fixed set of expected code and dial-code pairs, so a same-size substitution fails.

Assert COUNTRIES' codes against an independent hardcoded list of the 244 expected ISO codes, so a well-formed unique substitution that preserves the count still fails. Count, format, uniqueness, and flag checks are unchanged.
