Refresh remote hits before preparing cache uploads - #51
Conversation
Auto-committed-on: macbook
Push now checks which recent actions the server already holds and refreshes their timestamps instead of re-reading and re-uploading their outputs, and it uses a larger in-flight byte budget so large artifacts overlap better. The push report gained refreshed-action counts and per-phase timings so slow pushes can be attributed to refresh, preparation, or transfer. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Push now checks existing remote actions concurrently before reading local outputs, refreshing entries whose record, output names, and writer signature match and falling back to upload for missing, incomplete, malformed, or differently signed ones. The push byte budget is raised to 256 MiB so artifacts larger than the fetch budget can overlap, while downloads keep their separate 32 MiB budget. Auto-committed-on: macbook
Document the concrete 32 concurrent call and 32 MiB byte budget limits for reading an entry's objects and record, replacing the vague reference to push upload limits. Also wrap `GetActionResult` in backticks in the refresh doc comment. Auto-committed-on: macbook

Add a fake-server knob that makes the next action reads answer UNAVAILABLE, and a test asserting that a push whose optional refresh exhausts its retries still uploads the action and prekeys instead of failing. Auto-committed-on: macbook

transient errors and `Error::Status` with `Code::NotFound` are treated as
refresh misses, while other errors still propagate. In `verify`, retry the
signature blob read through `Client::read` so a missing blob can follow the
refresh-miss path.

A transient error during the optional refresh now falls back to the upload path instead of aborting the push, so a stalled read can no longer prevent healthy writes from repairing or publishing entries. The spec documents this behaviour and the existing test is reformatted to match. Auto-committed-on: macbook

tinysweeper found nothing blocking, but could not review everything, so this is not an approval: crates/tinymold-remote/src/remote/refresh.rs, tinysweeper/tests.

Summary
Remote save currently prepares every recently used action, including remote hits, before checking which blobs the server lacks. In chottu-core run 39031376775, save republished 1,962 actions (1,650 remote hits plus 312 newly stored compiles), uploaded 49.2 GiB, and took 209 seconds.
Refresh complete existing actions using metadata checks before reading their local outputs. Verify the local record, object names, writer signature, and remote blob presence; repair missing or differently signed entries through the existing upload path. Hash shared local objects once per push. Increase only the once-per-job upload byte budget from 32 to 256 MiB, keeping downloads at 32 MiB. Report refreshed actions and refresh/preparation/transfer timings.

API or behavior changes
PushReportgains refreshed-action and phase-duration fields. Existing complete actions are refreshed rather than republished. Cache key and record encodings are unchanged; remote-supplied results are never re-signed or republished.Validation
Passed locally:
cargo fmt --all -- --check,cargo clippy --all-targets --all-features -- -D warnings, cargo build --all-targets --all-features, andcargo test --all-features.Regression test confirmed failing on the original code, then passing: saving a remote hit works without reading local outputs. Tests also cover remote blob eviction repair, signing-key changes, malformed remote metadata, and larger upload scheduling. Existing remote tests passed before implementation.
Live chottu-core EX63 measurement is pending and will be linked here. No measured performance claim yet. See updated
