Onboarding
When new users install the plug-in for the very first time, we will redirect them to the onboarding screens.
Step one will allow you to enter the credentials or API key. Second step is awaiting the confirmation. Third step is setting up the base settings for the plug-in to work.
Considerations
The onboarding wizard is not technically complex and shares a lot of with the new settings UI. Therefor decided to included into one PR.
Duplication of the sign-up card. We will be introducing a new UI for the settings screen as well. When that is done this card will be re-used.
Added variables to have consistent colors over various screens. All start with a tiny-* prefix and are set to body.

New Features
Added guided setup for creating or connecting an account, confirming email, and configuring compression.
Account screens show connection status, plan details, and available credits, with options to buy credits or change plans when applicable.
Settings estimate credits per image based on selected sizes and options, and include controls for WebP/AVIF output, image resizing, and compression timing.
Improvements
Refreshed the settings layout with clearer cards and summaries.
Eligible administrators are directed to setup after activating the plugin individually.
It looks like this branch is under active development. To avoid overwhelming you with review comments due to an influx of new commits, CodeRabbit has automatically paused this review. You can configure this behavior by changing the reviews.auto_review.auto_pause_after_reviewed_commits setting.
The plugin adds an activation-aware, three-step onboarding flow. It updates account connection and status handling, restructures the settings page, and adds per-image credit calculations based on selected compression options.
Activation can mark onboarding incomplete and redirect eligible administrators to step 1. The views render account setup, email confirmation, and settings. The save handler validates and stores submitted options.
Account connection and status src/class-tiny-settings.php, src/js/admin.js, src/views/account-status-*, src/css/admin.css, test/integration/settings.spec.ts, test/integration/utils.ts, test/unit/TinySettingsAdminTest.php
Account views support account creation and API-key connection. Status views display connection state, account details, and qualifying credit options. Scripts submit connection requests and load account status.
The settings page uses card-based controls for compression, image sizes, original-image handling, and modern formats. Credit helpers calculate per-image usage, and settings interactions refresh the displayed summaries.

Avoid a full statistics scan during onboarding.
Step 3 scans every eligible attachment, parses metadata, checks image files, and computes settings-dependent statistics. A large media library can make this request unnecessarily slow.
Do not replace it with a generic attachment count. Cache the exact count or statistics result, or add a bounded implementation that preserves the same metadata, settings, and file-state checks.

Handle failed compressor initialization before dereferencing $this->compressor.
admin_init() catches Tiny_Compress::create() failures and continues without a compressor. The settings page and onboarding step 1 call render_account_connect() unconditionally. A stored key also reaches the connected-status branch, and onboarding step 3 calls is_api_key_pending(). These paths can call a method on null, causing a fatal error instead of showing the compressor error state. (raw.githubusercontent.com)
Keep compressor availability explicit. Render a non-interactive error state and return controlled AJAX responses when initialization fails.

Restore the onboarded state when activation finds credentials.
When get_api_key() returns a non-empty key and tinypng_onboarding_status is already 0, the condition at src/class-tiny-onboarding.php:245-250 is false, so activation leaves the site incomplete. redirect_after_activation() then redirects the administrator to onboarding, contrary to the class contract that an existing key is not sent through onboarding. This is separate from the API-key precedence fix.

Do not multiply the resize credit by conversion credits.
When resize and WebP/AVIF conversion are enabled, the settings page reports 12 credits for five sizes. The displayed rules require 11 credits: two per converted size plus one resize credit. This is a user-facing estimate error, separate from the conditional resize-display concern.
Suggested fix
