How to incorporate other CF parameters to uniquely define a variable? #6

Hi,
Is it possible to have more than just "name" and "units" as the two currently approved parameters?
For example there could be multiple wind speed or temperatures at different heights in a file, so heights would be an essential CF parameter to add to distinguish between the different wind speed variables.
Or there could be different temperature fields like instant temperature but also maximum/minimum daily temperature which would have different time bounds and calculation methods that need to be specified.
Maybe I missed this in the specs but I'm not clear how (and if) the current CF extension provisions for this.
