Double click on a word shouldn't select the rest of the apostrophe.

What is the problem?

• When we select a word by double clicking on it, the whole word with a apostrophe shouldn't be selected. This is the same feature on the Obsidian and Joplin.
• Double click should select just the root of a word without including the apostrophe, that makes bolding/italicizing much more easier.

Why do I want this feature?

• If I want to select the whole word including the apostrophe, I can easily move my mouse to select the rest of the word with this feature, but now, selecting only the root is a pain; I can't use double click, just one click & hold, and moving my mouse to select the exact root without selecting the tiny apostrophe.

Thanks for the clear write-up. Since 2.7.3 the editor finds word boundaries with the Unicode word-breaking rules (Intl.Segmenter), the same rules browsers, macOS text fields and Word use. That is what lets double-click select a single word in Chinese or Japanese, which have no spaces between words. Under those rules don't and Markpad's are one word, so double-click selects all of it.

Splitting at the apostrophe again is possible, but it means patching Monaco's internals and keeping that patch working across upgrades, for behaviour that differs from the rest of the platform. That is the trade-off, and we are keeping the current behaviour. To select only the root, double-click and then press Shift+← to trim the 's.
