Description

Adds backend-rs/, a Rust (axum + sqlx) port of the Node backend. It doesn't switch anything over: the shipped Dockerfile and CI still build and run Node. The Rust backend is opt-in.

The binary runs in two modes:

  • Standalone (FORESEERR_NODE_URL unset, or FORESEERR_STANDALONE=1): the whole backend in one process.
    • Startup: the TypeORM migrations on SQLite and Postgres (production; development uses the synchronize schema), the settings.json bootstrap and its migrations, and the Overseerr merge.
    • Requests: every API route behind a port of the OpenAPI request validator, Express-style routing, sessions and CSRF.
    • Background work: the job scheduler with all jobs, and the Plex, Jellyfin, Radarr and Sonarr scanners.
    • Also: the mapping layer, media actions for Trakt, Jellyfin, AniList and Simkl, image and avatar proxies, notifications, the static frontend and /api-docs, and the log files the log viewer reads.
    • Runtimes: desktop and the Jellyfin plugin. The launch contract is in backend-rs/README.md.
  • Proxy: in front of a running Node, answering the routes it implements and forwarding the rest, for a gradual switch.

The port matches Node's logic (which requests are accepted, statuses, response values, database and settings.json writes, jobs, outbound calls). It deliberately doesn't imitate Bun or JavaScript internals: odd input (0x10 ids, 1e400 numbers, …) gets a plain 400, and internal failures use the crate's own error text.

Node-side changes (needed for proxy mode only)

  • server/routes/internal.ts: internal endpoints Rust calls for Node's process state and settings reloads, behind the API key.
  • server/lib/downloadtracker.ts: a snapshot() accessor.
  • server/job/schedule.ts: with FORESEERR_RUST_JOBS=1, Node doesn't schedule jobs (Rust runs them).
  • server/index.ts: mounts the internal routes.

Also included

  • Dockerfile.rust: a standalone image (frontend built with Bun, backend on Alpine, runs as uid 1000). .dockerignore now skips backend-rs/target.
  • .github/workflows/backend-rs.yml: fmt, clippy (-D warnings) and tests for the crate.
  • tools/shadow and .github/workflows/shadow.yml: record real traffic and replay it against both backends, comparing responses, outbound calls and the database.

AI disclosure: this port was written with Claude Code (Anthropic), working in parallel sub-agents under supervision. Each area was checked against the running Node backend: the validator differential, the side-by-side replays, Postgres schema dumps and fake-provider comparisons described below.

Known differences

  • A user without permission who sends a malformed id gets 400 (the id check runs first); Node answers 403.
  • Error message text, JSON key order, header casing and order, log wording and email bytes differ from Node by design.

Not in this PR

  • Making Rust the default image and CI target, and what happens to the Node code.
  • Updating the desktop app and Jellyfin plugin launchers (outside this repo) to start the Rust binary.

How Has This Been Tested?

  • cargo fmt --check, cargo clippy --all-targets --locked -- -D warnings, and cargo test --locked (500 passed).
  • Validator differential test (backend-rs/scripts/openapi-diff.sh): the Node validator and the Rust one agree on all 30,756 decisions that are meant to match, on a 32,271-request corpus. The 935 deliberate differences are counted separately: 836 are body-parser wording, 95 are JSON numbers past f64, 3 are absolute-form targets, and 1 is a lone surrogate.
  • Side-by-side replay of the 10,287 validator-accepted corpus requests through Node and standalone Rust on identical SQLite configs: 90% identical status. Every difference is odd input or an internal failure now answered the Rust way. With Bun quirks still emulated, an earlier run reached 100% status agreement on SQLite and Postgres, with matching DB dumps.
  • Postgres: production migrations give the same pg_dump --schema-only and migrations rows as Node.
  • Media actions: a 54-step comparison against fake Trakt, AniList, Simkl and Jellyfin servers is identical for direct Trakt and for Trakt through the Jellyfin token bridge.
  • Runtimes: desktop and plugin readiness, lock and shutdown behaviour checked by hand against Node.
  • Docker: a fresh boot runs all 83 SQLite migrations and serves the SPA, the API and /api-docs; stopping exits 0.

Priority: ➖ Normal

Estimated code review effort: 5 (Critical) | ~120 minutes

Merge Risk: 🟡 Moderate · up to 17cde

The new Rust backend is opt-in, but anyone who can reach it can exhaust its memory with large request bodies before authentication. The main CI build currently fails formatting. Error messages can expose the MDBList API key. Shadow recording opens an unauthenticated proxy on the network by default. Fix these before merging.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🟠 High · up to 17cde

The optional server can exhaust memory before authentication, and the recording tool exposes an unauthenticated proxy to arbitrary destinations. Credential handling and administrative integration endpoints add further exposure. Existing deployments are not automatically switched over, so deployment choices substantially affect reachability.

Retained concerns

  • High · security · observed: The new Rust pipeline collects complete request bodies before enforcing its 100 KiB JSON limit or deriving the user identity. The OpenAPI gate also collects eligible bodies before validation. An unauthenticated caller reaching ordinary Rust server modes can therefore consume process memory regardless of the eventual rejection, affecting both standalone operation and the proxy front door.
  • High · security · observed: The new recording proxy defaults to 0.0.0.0:8899, ignores peer identity, and sends requests to caller-selected absolute URLs or HTTPS destinations. No proxy authentication or destination restriction is present in the inspected dispatch path. A network caller can use the recorder's access to private services; the demonstrated authority is HTTP and HTTPS access, not arbitrary code execution or unrestricted raw TCP tunnelling.
  • Medium · security · observed: The new API-key-only avatar endpoint applies caller-supplied overrides to a User entity using Object.assign without runtime field filtering. If avatar refresh triggers persistence, additional entity fields can be saved outside the public request-validation contract. This broadens a narrowly described avatar operation into an entity-wide mutation boundary. It requires the global application key, which already grants administrative access; it is not an unauthenticated privilege escalation.
  • Medium · security · inferred: Recording creates another copy of application settings and database state, but snapshot directories and copied files do not use the private-file helper protecting newly created JSONL recordings. Confidentiality consequently depends on source permissions, filesystem access controls, and the operator's umask. With readable source settings or permissively created database backups, other host users can acquire application or provider credentials. This is conditional local exposure, not demonstrated remote access to recording files.
  • Medium · security · observed: The Rust MDBList client embeds the shared provider key in its request URL and propagates formatted transport errors into a forwarding outcome. Standalone handling turns that outcome into a JSON error containing the reason and logs server failures, allowing URL-bearing transport errors to disclose the provider credential to eligible route callers and log readers. Proxy mode normally forwards the response decision to Node instead. Exact caller authorization and every base error shape remain partially assessed.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — Request-memory exhaustion affects the addressed Rust process and the application requests it serves or forwards. Recorder abuse reaches HTTP and HTTPS services accessible from the recorder's network position. Deployment firewalls may reduce reachability; there is no evidence establishing cross-instance or cross-environment scope.
  • observed — A valid Node internal key authorizes process-wide delegated operations, including settings effects, scheduler and scanner control, mapping writes, and Trakt token refresh. The key is already administrative in the ordinary API. Additional-instance exposure depends on whether deployments share that credential, which remains unknown.

Security Findings and Attack Paths

  • observed — The two retained Rust denial-of-service findings share an attack path: an externally supplied body is fully buffered before a rejection can enforce size or authentication. The configured JSON parser limit is counterevidence to acceptance of oversized JSON, but not to memory exhaustion during collection.
  • observed — The retained Shadow SSRF condition follows peer-independent proxy dispatch to a caller-selected destination. Disabling redirects and validating upstream TLS do not restrict destinations or authenticate proxy clients.
  • observed — The retained Jellyfin path-interpolation condition has an unchanged Node counterpart: both accept length-bounded identifiers and interpolate item IDs into PlayedItems paths. Rust's direct episode operation additionally reads the item and requires an Episode response before writing. The comparison did not establish newly gained privilege or greater exposure, so this is not retained as an active PR architecture concern.
  • observed — The retained standalone internal-key timing finding concerns ordinary equality over a privileged bearer credential. It is narrower and lower-likelihood than the unauthenticated resource and proxy attack paths; practical key recovery was not demonstrated by this architecture review.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Standalone plugin minting requires loopback, a valid shared secret, and a mint marker. The authenticated plugin supplies Jellyfin identity, access token, and administrator status, which determine local identity and permissions without independent Jellyfin token validation. The existing Node route has the same trust contract; the PR does not establish a newly weakened identity boundary here.
  • observed — Servarr import routes require MANAGE_REQUESTS. Capability redemption checks user, media, quality, service, external ID, operation kind, and expiry. These checks match the unchanged Node counterpart and rebut an assertion that possession of another user's operation token alone grants import authority.

Resilience and Maintainability Implications

  • observed — Manual import claims an optional intervention before issuing the external command, attempts release on an observed command failure, and consumes candidate tokens after success. Completion and failure are reconciled through command polling. Node has the same ordering. Neither this comparison nor the process-local token store establishes exactly-once execution or recovery across interruption, concurrent redemption, or loss of the command token.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Enforce streaming body bounds before collection throughout validation, native handling, CSRF processing, and internal fallback paths. Treat body size, concurrent buffering, and read deadlines as ingress resource controls rather than post-buffer parser checks.
  • proposed — Default the recording proxy to loopback and require explicit authenticated network exposure. Restrict outbound authority to the integrations needed for a recording, including private-address and metadata-service policy appropriate to the deployment.
  • proposed — Give privileged delegation an explicit credential and operation scope, runtime-validate and allowlist entity overrides, and use consistent constant-time secret checks. Avoid relying on TypeScript annotations to restrict untrusted request objects.
  • proposed — Apply a private credential-storage boundary to the entire recording and snapshot tree, including reused files and database backups. Redact credential-bearing URLs before errors reach responses or logs, and define recording retention and deletion explicitly.

futures_join runs the fetches one after another.

Rust futures make no progress until something polls them. Each candidates(...) future therefore starts only when the second loop awaits it. With up to 20 sources, GET /imports makes up to 20 sequential Arr calls, not the concurrent Promise.all that the doc comment describes. Use the existing crate::jellyfin::join_all.

♻️ Proposed fix

Update futures_join to poll all candidates concurrently by collecting the
candidates futures into the Job type expected by crate::jellyfin::join_all and
awaiting that helper, preserving the existing result order.

Reuse the range parser and dataset table from mappinglayer.

range_ok and pair_ok re-implement edges::parse_range_pair with different rules:

  • This file uses str::parse::<i64>. It accepts +5 and rejects 1.0.
  • edges.rs uses the regex-equivalent digit check plus number_of_str. It rejects +5 and accepts 1.0.

As a result, the Sonarr season translation and the scanners can disagree about whether the same mapping_edge row is usable.

DATASETS and rank also duplicate mappingdatasets::DATASETS. If a dataset is added there, this file silently ignores it.

♻️ Proposed refactor
-const DATASETS: [(&str, i64); 2] = [("anibridge", 1), ("fribb", 2)];
-
-fn rank(key: &str) -> i64 {
-    DATASETS
-        .iter()
-        .find(|(k, _)| *k == key)
-        .map_or(i64::MAX, |(_, r)| *r)
-}
-...
-fn pair_ok(source: &str, target: &str) -> bool { ... }
+fn rank(key: &str) -> i64 {
+    crate::mappingdatasets::definition(key).map_or(i64::MAX, |d| d.rank)
+}
+
+fn pair_ok(source: &str, target: &str) -> bool {
+    !crate::mappinglayer::edges::parse_range_pair(source, target).is_empty()
+}

Replace the DATASETS.iter().any(...) filter with crate::mappingdatasets::definition(&r.0).is_some().

Reuse the existing Trakt client and AniList expiry helpers.

trakt_client (lines 98-143) repeats mediaactions::trakt::client almost line for line. The repeated parts are the bridge check, the credentials, the user_settings token query, the NodeRefresh construction and TraktClient::user. anilist_token_expired (lines 240-249) duplicates mediaactions::anilist::token_expired. The clear-on-expiry UPDATE at lines 293-310 duplicates mediaactions::anilist::user_client. If one copy changes later, the copies diverge. For example, a change to the refresh URL or the expiry margin applied to only one copy would make watched-title filtering and media actions disagree. Expose one helper per concern, for example crate::trakt::user_client_for(state, settings, user) and a shared AniList link loader, and call that helper from both modules.

Also applies to: 240-249

by collecting the candidates futures into the Job type expected by

Add the compiled-in inputs outside the crate to the path filters.

The crate builds against files outside backend-rs/. Dockerfile.rust copies seerr-api.yml, package.json and server/i18n/locale into the build stage for this reason. The README also says the locales and package.json are compiled in. The pull_request and push filters only match backend-rs/** and this workflow file. A change to seerr-api.yml or a locale file can therefore break cargo build, or the generated apiroutes.rs and the OpenAPI tests, and this workflow will not run.

Remove the claim that /api-docs is not served.

Standalone mode serves /api-docs. standalone::fallback::answer calls super::apidocs::answer before the static handler. Dockerfile.rust copies node_modules/swagger-ui-dist for this purpose. The PR objectives also list /api-docs as covered. Line 201 states the opposite.

Percent-encode item_id before inserting it into the Jellyfin URL path.

jellyfinItemIdSchema accepts path separators, dot segments, ?, and #. The Rust and Node clients interpolate this externally supplied value directly into the request path, so a crafted ID can change the Jellyfin endpoint. Build the path with a URL path-segment API such as Url::path_segments_mut().push(item_id).

Update the Jellyfin URL construction using client.base and client.user_id so
item_id is appended as an encoded path segment via the URL path-segment API,

🩺 Stability & Availability | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Clear the job RUNNING flags in a drop guard.

Each job sets a static RUNNING flag and clears it only on the normal return path. The scheduler catches a panicking run in tokio::spawn, so the process survives and the flag stays true. The swap-guarded jobs then skip every later run. In availability_sync, the stale flag makes Jellyfin reads treat every 500 as an empty result.

  • backend-rs/src/jobs/release_calendar.rs#L529-L542: after the swap, create a guard whose Drop stores false and reports running: false.
  • backend-rs/src/jobs/episode_request_sync.rs#L218-L231: use the same guard after RUNNING.swap(true, ...).
  • backend-rs/src/jobs/availability_sync.rs#L177-L196: use the same guard after RUNNING.store(true, ...).
struct Running(&'static AtomicBool);
impl Drop for Running {
    fn drop(&mut self) { self.0.store(false, Ordering::SeqCst); }
}

Based on learnings: "the task must reset the flag to false on all exit paths (success, error, panic, early return), typically via a guard/drop".

Ensure each job’s RUNNING state is reset and its running status is reported as
false on every exit path, including panics, by using a drop guard. In
backend-rs/src/jobs/release_calendar.rs:529-542, create the guard after the
successful RUNNING.swap; in backend-rs/src/jobs/episode_request_sync.rs:218-231,
do the same after RUNNING.swap; and in

the stopped status.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

strip_accent does not match Node's NFD-based sanitizeDisplayName.

The doc comment says the function behaves "as NFD followed by dropping combining marks gives". The FROM/TO table covers only Latin-1 letters. Other precomposed letters get dropped entirely instead of reduced to their base letter. Examples are ō, ū, ă, č, ş and ž.

For example, a requester named "Kōji" gets the Radarr/Sonarr tag {id}-kji. Node creates {id}-koji. requester_tag looks tags up by the {id}- prefix, so lookups still work. However, new tags created from Rust carry labels that differ from Node's.

The crate already depends on unicode-normalization, and mappinglayer/derive.rs uses it. Use it in this function.

♻️ Proposed fix
 pub(crate) fn sanitize_display_name(name: &str) -> String {
+    use unicode_normalization::{char::is_combining_mark, UnicodeNormalization};
+    let name: String = name.nfd().filter(|c| !is_combining_mark(*c)).collect();
     let mut out = String::new();
     let mut last_space = false;
     for c in name.chars() {
-        let base = strip_accent(c);
+        let base = c;

After this change, remove strip_accent.

Check whether Node also lower-cases the label. The function comment says [a-z0-9-], but the code keeps upper-case ASCII letters. The test expects "Jose-Alvarez", so Rust and Node may already disagree on case.

Update strip_accent so it matches NFD-based accent removal for precomposed
Unicode letters, rather than relying on the limited Latin-1 FROM/TO table. Use
the existing unicode-normalization dependency to decompose characters and remove
combining marks, and remove strip_accent if its mapping is no longer needed;
leave case handling unchanged.

Format this file or exclude it from Prettier; the format check fails on it.

The pipeline reports that bun run format:check fails on this file, so the "Lint & Test Build" job fails. The file is a vendored copy of the Swagger UI page, and its whitespace and trailing undefined must probably stay byte-identical to what Node sends. If so, do not reformat it. Add an ignore entry instead, for example backend-rs/src/standalone/apidocs.html (or backend-rs/**/*.html) in .prettierignore. If the bytes do not need to match, run prettier --write on the file.

Weak Cryptography

Compare the /internal API key in constant time.

In standalone mode, /internal is served on the public listener. A request's X-API-Key header flows into given == Some(key.as_bytes()), which is a short-circuiting byte comparison. Node's apiKeyMatches in server/routes/internal.ts uses timingSafeEqual. The Rust plugin secret check (runtime::verify_secret) already uses subtle. This guard protects /internal/trakt/refresh, which returns user Trakt tokens, and other process-state routes. The weakness is a timing side channel on a secret comparison (confidentiality of the API key). Over a network it is hard to exploit, but the fix is one line.

Bind the forward proxy to loopback by default.

upstream_listen defaults to 0.0.0.0:8899. ForwardProxy::serve in tools/shadow/src/upstream.rs ignores the peer address. Any host that can reach port 8899 can therefore send an absolute-URL request or a CONNECT request. handle_call → record_call then sends that request with reqwest to any URL and returns the full response. This makes the recorder an unauthenticated open proxy for as long as recording runs. A network peer can reach services that are only reachable from the recorder host, such as 127.0.0.1:8989 (Sonarr), LAN admin UIs, or 169.254.169.254. Those calls are also written to upstream.jsonl and mixed into the recording. The README tells users to set the backend proxy host to 127.0.0.1, so a loopback default matches the documented setup. If the backend runs in a container, the user can still pass a wider address explicitly.

Update the output-directory setup used by record and replay so both roots are
created with owner-only permissions on Unix and existing directories are
tightened to the same mode. Reuse a shared helper such as create_private_dir for
the directory creation and permission handling, while preserving existing
behavior on other platforms.

Port the Node backend to Rust (axum + sqlx) in backend-rs/. The binary
runs in two modes:

- Standalone (FORESEERR_NODE_URL unset or FORESEERR_STANDALONE=1): the
  whole backend in one process. It runs the TypeORM migrations on SQLite
  and Postgres, the settings.json bootstrap, every API route behind a
  port of the OpenAPI request validator, CSRF, sessions, the job
  scheduler with all jobs, the Plex/Jellyfin/*arr scanners, the mapping
  layer, media actions, the static frontend and /api-docs, and the
  desktop and Jellyfin plugin runtimes.
- Proxy: in front of a running Node, answering the routes it implements
  and forwarding the rest, for a gradual switch-over.

The port matches Node's logic (accepted requests, statuses, response
values, database writes, jobs, outbound calls) without imitating Bun or
JavaScript internals. Odd input is rejected as a plain 400 and internal
failures are answered with the crate's own error text.

Node-side support for proxy mode: server/routes/internal.ts (process
state and settings reload for Rust), downloadTracker.snapshot(), and
FORESEERR_RUST_JOBS=1 to stop Node scheduling jobs when Rust runs them.

Also adds Dockerfile.rust (standalone image; the shipped Dockerfile is
unchanged), the backend-rs CI workflow, and tools/shadow for recording
traffic and replaying it against both backends.

GET /library/watch-now handed users with autoCompleteSkippedEpisodeEndings
on to Node, which in standalone mode is an error and the library page
showed "Could not reach Jellyfin".

Port cleanupSkippedEpisodeEndings and the skippedEpisodeEndings helpers
(threshold, progress, frontier, staleness) to skippedepisodes.rs, with the
calls out behind a Deps trait like Node's injectable dependencies. The live
dependencies reuse the Trakt media-action availability, season status and
episode history write, the Jellyfin client and its played-state cache, and
add traktEpisodeActions.removePlaybackProgress. watch_now now builds under
a per-user lock (watchNowCleanupLock) when the setting is on and cleans the
resume list with the user's threshold before the shelves are built.

resolveMediaRows handed the request to Node when two media rows shared a
Jellyfin id, or a TMDB id and type. That happens after a title was
re-identified (the old row keeps its Jellyfin id), and standalone it failed
every library shelf. Node reads the rows unordered and lets later rows
overwrite the Jellyfin map and `find` the first TMDB match; do the same
over rows ordered by id.

…gres

The calendar handed the request to Node when one user's relevant requests
for an occurrence had different statuses on Postgres, because Node reads
them unordered. Standalone that failed the whole calendar. Take the first
by id, as the rows are already ordered.

PUT /user with more than one id went to Node on Postgres because Node
returns the users in heap order. Answer them by id instead.

GET /blocklist parsed the raw query itself and handed searches with
! ' ( ) * (which encodeURIComponent leaves alone, e.g. "Don't") to Node.
Use the validated query like GET /media, with blocklistGet's take/skip
rules, and keep the raw parser for when the validator didn't run.

The library genre list went to Node for any genre name outside plain
ASCII, so a Jellyfin with Turkish (or any accented) metadata failed the
genre filter standalone. Approximate localeCompare's base sensitivity:
decompose, drop accents, ignore case, keep ICU's group order (space, -,
&, symbols, digits, letters) and put other characters by code point.

POST /auth/jellyfin handed a string port (what the setup form can send)
to Node. Node keeps body.port as sent and builds the URL from it, so do
the same.

…errors

An MDBList list whose equally ranked items had titles outside plain ASCII
went to Node, as did any network failure reaching MDBList. Tied titles now
fall back to the base collation key (accents dropped, case ignored, then
code points), shared with the Jellyfin genre sort in jsval, and a network
failure is MDBList being unavailable (503), as for a timeout.

…locale

GET /genres/{movie,tv} and GET /tv/{id}/episodes went to Node when neither
the user nor settings.main had a locale. Node's TMDB client then uses
'en' (and TVDB its English default); do the same.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Discover pages with an MDBList key went to Node when a result's release
date didn't start with a year. Leave the year out of the ratings lookup
instead.

…RECTORY

GET /settings/about went to Node when CONFIG_DIRECTORY was unset, which
the Rust Docker image doesn't set, so Settings > About failed standalone.
Print the config directory this process uses (CONFIG_DIRECTORY, else
config/ under the app root), as Node's appDataPath() does.

GET /settings/logs went to Node when trustProxy was on but a request had
no X-Forwarded-For (direct LAN access), and whenever a startup-only
network setting had changed since startup. Read trust proxy as Express
set it at startup, and take req.ip as Express does: the leftmost
forwarded address when trusted, else the peer's (also standalone without
trust, where there is no Node in between).

…eset

POST /auth/plex and POST /auth/reset-password went to Node for an email
with non-ASCII characters. Lower-case it as the password login already
does; Unicode case-folding differences from JavaScript don't matter here.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
POST /settings/{radarr,sonarr}/test went to Node when the server answered
with something other than JSON (its web page, behind a wrong URL base).
Node's handler trips over that string and answers "Failed to connect";
treat it as a failed call here too.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
The Plex user import and GET /settings/plex/users went to Node for any
Plex user id of 10 digits or more. parseInt reads up to 15 digits exactly,
so accept those.

POST /settings/main went to Node when settings.json held
imageCacheIdleDays as text. Use the image cache's clampImageCacheIdleDays
port, which reads it with Number() like Node, instead of a second copy
that couldn't.

The confirm probe behind every provider tile (tmdbRecord, used for the
poster, backdrop, date and the id-still-valid check) fetched the full
details record with credits, videos, keywords and watch providers, plus a
second trailer lookup outside English. It now asks for the bare
/movie|tv/{id} record, which carries every field it reads, and reuses a
full details answer when one is already cached. The bare record shares its
12-hour cache entry with the browse metadata lookups.

Provider tiles also carry TMDB vote_average as voteAverage (omitted when
the record has none), from the same record, so cards can show the score
without a details request.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Port of the server change: tmdb_record reads TmdbClient::title_summary,
the bare /movie|tv/{id} record (reusing a cached full details answer),
instead of the full details with appends, and with_tmdb_poster adds
voteAverage from the record's vote_average when present.

Per-item work on a provider row page ran either one item at a time
(resolveDiscoverItems for MDBList, mapAnilistMediaList, Trakt id
hydration) or all at once (tile posters, Trakt and AniList confirm), and
TMDB latency climbs steeply with many requests in flight. All of these now
go through mapWithConcurrency with PROVIDER_ROW_CONCURRENCY (8), which
keeps the output order; Simkl candidate resolution goes from 2 to the same
limit. Results are unchanged.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Port of the server change: map_with_concurrency with
PROVIDER_ROW_CONCURRENCY (8), order-preserving, for the mapping-layer
confirm, poster, resolve-items, Trakt hydrate/confirm, AniList media and
Simkl resolve steps that ran sequentially or all at once.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
resolveSimklTmdbId asked TMDB /find for the IMDB id and then the TVDB id
of every series tile, straight through the TMDB client. The TVDB lookup is
now skipped when the IMDB answer already decides the outcome (it agrees
with Simkl's own TMDB id, or names exactly one record when Simkl has
none), which cannot change the result. The lookups also go through the
mapping layer's tmdbFind, so an id TMDB does not know is remembered for
six hours like every other mapping /find instead of five minutes.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Port of the server change: find_ids goes through probe::tmdb_find (with
its not-found cache), and the TVDB lookup is skipped once the IMDB answer
settles the outcome.

The AniList list rows (watching, planning, completed, paused, dropped,
list by name, public list by URL) mapped every entry of the matching lists
to TMDB, each with a confirm probe, and then cut out one page of 20.
mapAnilistMediaPage maps the entries in order, a batch at a time, only
until the page plus one more tile (for hasMore) is filled. Mapping drops
entries and folds seasons that share a TMDB show, so this is what keeps
the page boundaries, results and hasMore exactly as before; a later page
maps the entries before it as well, which the mapping caches mostly
answer.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Port of the server change: map_media_page maps list entries in order, in
batches no larger than the tiles still missing (and at most a hundred),
until the page and one more tile are filled, with the same cross-batch
deduplication as before.

Trakt charts and lists, AniList public pages, Simkl trending and MDBList
lists keep their computed page. Within the provider's own TTL it is served
as is; past it the stored page is served at once and one refresh runs in
the background (single-flight per key, a failed refresh keeps the stored
page). After 24 hours a page is a plain miss.

The stored page is the one before anything request-specific: unmapped
sightings, hideUnmapped and request annotations still run on every serve.
Trakt pages shaped by post-filters bypass the store. A mapping correction
clears every row; a dataset change marks them stale.

Port of the Node row cache (rowCache.ts) as rowcache.rs: Trakt charts and
lists, AniList public pages, Simkl trending and MDBList lists keep their
computed page, with the same keys, freshness windows (the provider's own
TTL), 24-hour hard maximum age and single-flight misses and refreshes. A
stale page is served at once and refreshed on a spawned task that rebuilds
the request from owned parts; a failed refresh keeps the stored page.

Sightings, hideUnmapped and request annotations still run on every serve;
Trakt pages shaped by post-filters bypass the store, and so does Simkl
trending while Node owns the mapping layer (its resolve call records the
gaps). Mapping corrections clear every row; dataset changes mark them
stale.

Trakt, AniList, Simkl, and MDBList rows rendered TmdbTitleCard, which
dropped the poster, date, and status the row already carries and loaded
`/movie/:id` or `/tv/:id` for every card that scrolled into view. A
discover page with ten such rows set off hundreds of full details calls.

A mapped tile with a confirmed TMDB poster now paints straight from the
row: poster, title, year, media type, mediaInfo status, and the row's
ratings. The details load only after the card's overlay has been open
for 150 ms (hover, focus, or tap), under the same SWR key the detail
page uses, and add the overview, TMDB score, and TMDB title. A failed
details load keeps the tile rather than turning it into an unmapped card.

Tiles without a TMDB poster or media type, unmapped tiles, library mode,
and the media-entity sliders (recently added, recently watched) keep the
scroll-into-view load.

Co-Authored-By: Claude Opus 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>
Provider row items can now carry the TMDB `voteAverage`. Row-painted
cards pass it to the TMDB rating badge, so the idle poster shows the
score on first paint instead of after the details load on hover. Rows
without it keep showing the score once the details arrive.

The test preload stubs `*.svg` imports as React components, as svgr
does under Vite, so render tests can reach the rating badge icons.

A shelf whose titles all fit on screen has nothing more to show, so the
See More card now appears only once the titles alone are wider than the
shelf. The card's own width is left out of that check, so it can't keep
itself visible.
