Refs #779.

The rolling development build now builds the Debian, Fedora and Arch packages in a distro container, installs them and runs the tray smoke test, and only then uploads them to the dev release with the other assets. Package metadata carries +dev.<sha> so an upgrade can tell which commit it is.

Workflow changes in beta.yml:

  • the build jobs drop to contents: read; attestation moves to one attest job (main only) that gets id-token and attestations: write.
  • release and attest run only on main for push or manual dispatch, not on pull requests.
  • the checksum and release steps include .deb, .rpm and .pkg.tar.zst.

nowplaying --version still reports the base version from package.json, not the +dev suffix; this is noted in docs/linux-native-packages.md.

Testing: test/linux-dev-release.test.js checks the workflow wiring. The release, attestation and publish steps only run on main, so they have not run yet; the first main build after this merges is the real test. Packages are tested in containers, not on a real desktop.
