About me

I am a computational biologist and postdoctoral fellow in Dr. Rendong Yang’s lab at the Feinberg School of Medicine, Northwestern University. My research focuses on developing computational methods, machine learning models, and multi-omic pipelines to study the regulatory complexity of cancer genomes and transcriptomes. I am particularly interested in using third-generation long-read sequencing technologies, including Oxford Nanopore sequencing, together with AI-driven approaches to uncover structural variants and transcriptomic alterations that are difficult to resolve with conventional profiling methods.

My current work addresses key computational bottlenecks in biomedical genomics. As a lead developer, I engineered OctopuSV (Bioinformatics), an automated toolkit for multi-sample structural variant analysis. I also contribute to cross-disciplinary projects in long-read transcriptomics, cancer immunogenomics, and regulatory genomics, including DeepChopper, a genomic language model published in Nature Communications for mitigating chimera artifacts in nanopore direct RNA sequencing; ScanNeo2, a workflow for neoantigen detection (Bioinformatics); and multi-omic studies that supported the discovery of cancer regulatory mechanisms published in Science Advances.

My early academic training established a foundation in algorithm design, comparative genomics, and multi-omic integration. My scientific perspective was further shaped by my time at Oregon State University in 2014, where Prof. Jerri Bartholomew’s mentorship strengthened my interest in genomics, evolution, and data-driven biological discovery. To date, I have authored and co-authored 26 peer-reviewed publications, with works published in Nature Communications, Science Advances, Bioinformatics, BMC Biology, and Biology (eight papers as first author).

My long-term goal is lead an independent research program the intersection of AI, long-read sequencing, and biomedical genomics. By engineering specialized computational tools for complex genomic and transcriptomic events, I aim to advance mechanistic discovery in cancer biology and contribute to more precise approaches for biomarker discovery, therapeutic target identification, and translational genomics.
