PugzRaidTools

PugzRaidTools (PRT) is a suite of automation tools for raiding. It gives raid leaders and assistants one place to build raid compositions, move players between groups, automate encounter-specific group swaps, configure player and enemy raid marks, and share complete setups with other users.

I originally built this addon as an automation tool for speedrunning in the guild cooked. It serves as a very powerful tool for both marking and for automating group composition swaps based on customizable triggers. It allows for simplicity across raid resets by allowing Group Auto Swaps and Player Auto Marks to dynamically update by reusing the same Raid Group Composition names. It also includes probably the fastest and most lightweight Target Marking tool I know of in the game.

Open the addon by left clicking the minimap or typing:

/prt

Quick Start

  1. Install PugzRaidTools and enter /prt to open the configuration window.
  2. Create or import a composition under Raid Groups.
  3. Enable the floating Raid Group list for quick access.
  4. Left-click a composition for a fast group-membership sort.
  5. Shift + left-click for an exact group-and-position sort.

While grouped, group rearrangement and player marking require raid leader or raid assistant permissions.

Recent Release Highlights

1.4.1 — Best-Effort Raid Sorting

Version 1.4.1 lets useful group sorting continue while a roster is still being filled or corrected.

  • Present players with exact server identities are sorted normally even when other roster entries are missing or still have unresolved bare names.
  • Missing and unresolved entries are reported in chat. Unresolved live players are unconstrained and may move as needed while known players are arranged.
  • Fast sorting, exact-position sorting, the Floating Raid Group List, Group Auto Swap, and Smart Assign use the same exact/no-guess identity boundary.
  • The raid leader remains protected from collateral moves, and an active Raid Groups cell edit is finalized before Apply Groups compiles the sort.

1.4.0 — Realm-Aware Raid Groups

Version 1.4.0 makes casual bare-name roster imports convenient while preserving exact server identities for advanced sorting and marking workflows.

  • Bare imported names can reconcile to the matching live player and save the exact Name-Realm identity.
  • Require Server Names keeps bare identities pending until the raid leader explicitly verifies them.
  • Same-name players from different servers use a full-name chooser, and explicit wrong-server replacements require a clear action.
  • Hide Server Names shortens roster-cell display without changing saved identities, exports, Group Auto Swap, exact position sorting, or Smart Assign.
  • Exact same-name players assigned to separate cells remain clean; warnings identify only additional unassigned namesakes.

1.3.3 — Raid Roles and Reliability Fixes

Version 1.3.3 adds direct raid-role controls and improves server-sensitive loot, Target Marks, and Raid Check behaviour.

  • Shift-click live Raid Groups cells to toggle assistant status, or Ctrl-click to securely toggle main-tank assignment. Role icons update immediately while the live roster confirms each change.
  • Target Marks can optionally mark while solo for rule testing and now reacts immediately when a configured modifier is pressed over the current mouseover target.
  • Loot settings wait for the requested method and master looter to be confirmed before applying the threshold, and Classic API rejections are reported instead of treated as success.
  • World Buff chat reports list Chronobooned players separately from players who are missing World Buffs.
  • PRT now reuses its minimap artwork in the in-game AddOns list.

1.3.2 — Performance and Interface Improvements

Version 1.3.2 makes PRT lighter during regular use and brings older configuration controls in line with the newer interface.

  • Reduced memory use and improved responsiveness when scrolling large Target Marks Preset Groupings, running Raid Checks, using Test Preview, and opening Auto Match or the Alias Database.
  • Standardized configuration dropdowns across the addon, including smooth hover highlighting while preserving dynamic raid-group lists, class colours, and raid-marker icons.
  • The main configuration window now remembers its size and position between sessions. Notifications, dropdowns, and colour pickers also layer more reliably above other PRT windows.
  • Updated the default notification and Floating Raid Group List colour to match the PRT theme.
  • Fixed valid overall PRT Profile imports failing with a misleading 0 message.
  • Fixed a Target Marks editor error that could occur when changing tabs while a raid-marker dropdown was open.
  • Moved developer troubleshooting commands to a dedicated /prt debug index so the normal help output stays focused on player commands.

1.3.1 — Raid Check Reporting and Alias Management

Version 1.3.1 expands the information Raid Check can share with a group and adds complete tools for moving, combining, and maintaining alias data.

  • Click Raid Check columns, player cells, or displayed Potion icons to report ready status, preparation, buffs, durability, warning effects, and potion results directly to group chat.
  • Use context-sensitive Shift-click reports for additional details, including player-specific buff information and raid positions.
  • Added !logs, !disallowed, !banned, and !invalid aliases for reporting detected Logs! warning effects and affected players.
  • Import or export the complete Alias Database, with clear choices for merging, renaming, or skipping duplicate aliases and realm-aware characters.
  • Merge aliases directly through live search and clickable suggestions without creating duplicate character entries.
  • Choose from three compact Profile Float label styles and navigate a reorganized, scrollable Settings page.
  • Improved the Alias Database window, confirmation prompts, popup layering, and class selection with clearer sizing, class colours, and hover feedback.

See the changelog for the complete release history.

Raid Groups

Build and save complete 40-player raid compositions in an eight-group roster editor.

  • Create, rename, delete, reorder, import, and export raid compositions.
  • Apply a saved composition to the current raid.
  • Instant sort groups.
  • Optionally force players into exact positions within each group with a slower precise sort.
  • Quickly identify missing players and players who are not part of the selected roster.
  • Warn when the same realm-qualified character appears in multiple roster positions.
  • Reconcile bare imported names to live realm-qualified identities, with optional strict verification and ambiguity warnings.
  • Optionally hide server suffixes in roster cells without changing saved or automation identities.
  • Shift-click a live player to toggle assistant status, or Ctrl-click to toggle main-tank assignment; both shortcuts are unavailable during combat.
  • Import multiple named compositions from a single text block.
  • Export one roster in selectable eight-column, paired-group, single-column, or PRT format, or export every saved roster with composition headers.
  • Automatically refresh roster information as players join or leave the raid.

Floating Raid Group List

The optional floating list keeps saved compositions accessible without opening the full configuration window.

  • Left-click a composition for a fast group swap.
  • Shift + left-click to force exact raid positions. (Warning - Can cause lag for yourself and other players.)
  • Hover over a composition to compare it with the current raid.
  • Toggle Group Auto Swap and Player Auto Marking directly from the floating window.
  • Optionally place the active overall PRT Profile selector at the top of the list.
  • Configure exact width, row height, font size, scale, background opacity, long-name handling, and mouse-over-only visibility.
  • Move, lock, show, or hide the list.

Auto Name Matcher and Alias Database

Imported rosters do not always use the same character names that players bring to the raid. The Auto Name Matcher helps reconcile those differences.

  • Compare unresolved imported names against the current live raid.
  • Detect exact character matches, known aliases, and likely name variations.
  • Adjust the confidence threshold for suggested matches.
  • Accept matches individually or apply all accepted matches together.
  • Drag unmatched live characters onto unresolved roster positions for manual matching.
  • Save multiple characters under one player alias.
  • Store character name, realm, and class information separately.
  • Search and manage saved aliases from the Alias Database window.
  • Merge one alias into another using live-search suggestions; realm-aware duplicate characters are combined automatically.
  • Import or export the complete Alias Database. Imports can merge duplicate alias names, keep both with an automatic rename, or skip them; characters already used by another alias can be kept in both or skipped.

For example, an alias named Pugz can contain characters such as Pugz, Pugzqt, and Pugzz, allowing any known character to satisfy a roster position assigned to that player.

Group Auto Swap

Automatically load a saved raid composition when configured NPC death conditions are met.

  • Create multiple named Auto Swap presets.
  • Trigger a composition after a specific NPC dies.
  • Require multiple kills before a trigger fires.
  • Configure repeating or one-time triggers.
  • Restrict each preset to a particular raid instance.
  • Allow activation anywhere for testing.
  • Reset kill counters manually, after leaving a configured zone, or after a configured NPC death count.
  • Import and export full presets or trigger collections.

Player Auto Marking

Automatically apply raid icons to players when configured encounter events occur.

  • Organize marking rules into named presets.
  • Trigger rules from NPC deaths or Group Auto Swap events.
  • Apply rules when any trigger, all triggers, or custom trigger conditions are satisfied.
  • Assign marks by player name or raid position.
  • Use Smart Assign to dynamically resolve a raid position through a saved Raid Group composition.
  • Configure repeatable rules and reusable mark sets.
  • Restrict presets to selected raid instances or enable them anywhere for testing.
  • Import and export complete presets or individual marking rules.

Target Marks

Apply raid icons to NPCs by holding a configured modifier and moving the mouse over a target.

  • Configure a main modifier and two alternative modifiers.
  • Give the same NPC different mark priorities for each modifier.
  • Add several possible marks to one NPC without duplicating its NPC ID.
  • Cycle through available marks across multiple mobs of the same type.
  • Organize NPC rules into named groupings such as raids, dungeons, or encounter sections.
  • Store all groupings inside shareable presets.
  • Import and export complete presets or individual groupings.
  • Optionally allow marking while solo to test configured NPC rules outside a group.

Invite & Loot Tools

The Invite & Loot Tools tab brings the tools used to open, manage, and finish a raid into one place.

All automated Invite & Loot settings can be stored in named presets and imported or exported together. A master switch disables automatic actions without erasing the active preset's individual settings. The realm-aware blocked-player list remains global so changing presets cannot unintentionally unblock someone.

Auto Invite Keywords

Add any number of invite keywords. An exact, case-insensitive whisper of one of those keywords automatically sends the player a group invite. For example, if inv is configured, both inv and INV work, while a longer message does not.

Optional controls can:

  • Restrict keyword invites to guild members.
  • Automatically accept incoming group invites from character friends, Battle.net friends, and guild members.
  • Block individual characters from keyword invites. Blocks are realm-aware, so characters with the same name on different realms are handled separately.

The blocked-player window in the tab lists every blocked character and allows individual entries to be removed. The same list can be managed with /prt ban, /prt unban, and /prt banlist.

Raid Invites

Enable Auto-convert to raid when party is full and auto-invite is requested when opening a raid through keyword whispers. PRT tracks the initial outgoing invites, holds requests that would exceed the five-player party limit, converts the full party to a raid, and then retries the queued players. This prevents simultaneous whispers and pending party invitations from dropping later invite requests.

This behavior can be toggled from the tab or with /prt invites on and /prt invites off, so it can remain disabled when you only want to form a party.

Raid Disband and Reinvites

/prt disband saves a realm-aware snapshot of everyone else in the current group before disbanding it. /prt reinv can be used later to invite the players from that snapshot. Reinvites respect party capacity and continue after converting a full party into a raid.

Auto Promote

Automatically promote selected raid members to assistant by entering character names separated by spaces or commas. You can also promote guild members at or above a selected guild-rank threshold. A player manually demoted during the current session is not immediately promoted again.

Loot Distribution Prompt

Configure a preferred loot method and quality threshold, including Common (White), then choose where the rule applies:

  • Naxxramas
  • Ahn'Qiraj
  • Blackwing Lair
  • Molten Core
  • Zul'Gurub
  • Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj
  • Blasted Lands
  • Azshara
  • Ashenvale
  • The Hinterlands
  • Duskwood
  • Feralas

Custom zones can also be added by name or captured directly from the player's current location.

When you enter a selected zone as group leader—or receive leadership while already there—PRT shows a one-time comparison of the configured and current loot settings. Choose Apply Configured to apply the preset or Keep Current Settings to leave the group unchanged. PRT does not continuously enforce the preset, so manual changes made afterward are preserved.

The prompt can be restricted to raid groups. When Master Loot is configured, automatic master-looter assignment is optional. Enable it and enter a character to assign that player. With assignment disabled, PRT preserves an existing master looter; if Master Loot is not active yet, PRT uses the group leader because Classic requires a master looter. PRT waits until the requested method and master looter are observable before applying the threshold. Method, master-looter, and threshold changes are compared independently so an unchanged Master Loot setting is not reapplied.

Loot to Chat

Automatically link Epic-or-higher items from raid loot windows to the appropriate group chat once per loot source. Item level can be included after each link. A typical message looks like:

1: [Item Link] (76)

Use /prt loot to link every item in the currently open loot window manually, regardless of quality.

Raid Check

Raid Check gives raid leaders a quick view of who is ready and who still needs buffs or consumables. Open it with /prt check or /rt check.

The compact raid window can show:

  • Ready-check responses and a collapsible ready-status view.
  • World buffs and active Chronoboon storage.
  • Flasks, Zanza effects, consumes, protection potions, and food.
  • Classic raid buffs, including warnings for low ranks.
  • Durability reported by group members running PRT.
  • Logs! warnings for effects that should not be present.

Rows use player class colours, and hovering an icon shows what PRT detected. Missing buffs are easy to spot, while lower ranks receive a red warning glow.

Customize the window

The Raid Check tab controls which columns appear and the order in which they are shown. Columns can be aligned left, centre, or right, and categories with several active effects can show multiple icons or a total count.

World-buff requirements can be configured separately for every class. Buffs that are detected but not counted for that class can be shown normally, faded, or hidden.

The window can open automatically when a ready check starts, fade when the check finishes, or stay open until dismissed.

Sorting, scale, frame level, collapsed mode, and right-click dismissal are also configurable. Use Test Preview to try the layout without starting a real ready check.

Chat reports

PRT can answer preparation checks from raid, party, or instance chat. Type a supported command yourself and the result is posted back to the same channel.

Common reports include:

  • !flask, !worldbuffs, !boon, !logs, !1hours, and !2hours
  • !fort, !gotw, !int, !spirit, and !shadow
  • !kings, !might, !wisdom, and !light
  • !durability, !jchill, and the protection-potion checks

Use /prt commands for the complete command and alias list. The same list is available from the Raid Check configuration tab. Long reports are divided into multiple chat messages automatically.

The live Raid Check window also supports click reports. Click a Player or category column to post its current status to group chat. Shift-click World Buffs for the one-hour-buff count, Shift-click DF BS for its player list, or Shift-click an individual class-buff cell for that player's exact status and raid position. Potion reports are selected by clicking the specific displayed potion icon. Test Preview click reports remain local so randomized preview data cannot be posted to a raid.

Overall PRT Profiles

PRT Profiles combine four configurable features into one shareable setup.

Each overall profile selects:

  • One Group Auto Swap preset.
  • One Player Auto Marking preset.
  • One Target Marks preset.
  • One Invite & Loot Tools preset.
  • Whether each feature should be enabled when that overall profile is selected.

Switching profiles loads the four assigned presets and applies their enabled defaults once. Features can still be toggled manually afterward without changing the saved profile defaults.

A single profile export contains the complete data for all four selected feature presets, making it easier to share or restore a full raid setup in one import.

Profile Float

The optional Profile Float displays the active overall PRT Profile and opens a profile list when clicked. It can be moved, locked, hidden, or configured to appear only while the mouse is over it. Width, height, font size, background opacity, and long-name handling can be adjusted independently, with exact values available for pixel-based sizing. Its main button can show Profile: ProfileName, P: ProfileName:, or only ProfileName.

The selector can instead be embedded at the top or bottom of the Floating Raid Group List, with left, center, or right text alignment and an optional background highlight. In this mode its dropdown shares the Group List's scale, width, row height, font, opacity, text handling, movement lock, and visibility settings; the unused standalone appearance controls are disabled.

Profile changes can optionally produce an on-screen notification using the addon's notification sound. Its sound and screen position can be configured and tested from the Profiles tab. The active overall profile is also included in the existing combined notification shown when entering a raid.

Raid Status Notifications

When entering a raid instance, PRT displays the current status of Group Auto Swap and Player Auto Marking, including:

  • Whether each feature is enabled.
  • Which preset is selected.
  • Whether the selected preset is active in the current zone.

Manual feature toggles also produce a focused on-screen status notification.

Additional Features

  • Optional automatic combat logging inside raid instances.
  • Minimap button for quick access.
  • Class-coloured player and alias information.
  • Customizable floating-list font, scale, color, outline, and background opacity.
  • Configurable notification size, position, duration, and color, with optional sounds.
  • Dependency-free installation.

Permissions and Compatibility

PugzRaidTools is designed for WoW Classic Era. Actions that rearrange raid groups or apply raid markers require the permissions normally required by the World of Warcraft client, such as raid leader or raid assistant.

The addon uses only the standard in-game API and does not require Ace3 or any other external addon library.

Support and Bug Reports

Report issues through GitHub Issues or the PugzRaidTools Discord.

When reporting an exact-position sorting problem, please include:

  • The addon version and WoW Classic Era version.
  • What composition was selected.
  • What happened compared with what you expected.
  • The output from /prt sortlog.
