Make the provider-hop transport schema enforce mutual_tls and a nonblank SNI.

providerHopEndpoints reuses EndpointTransport, so admission accepts tls, plaintext, and caSecretRef. The field description and the controller require mutual_tls with a nonblank SNI. The controller ignores invalid entries while the overlay is empty, so a misconfigured spec stays undetected until candidates return. Use a dedicated transport type in ProviderHopEndpointConfig, then regenerate both manifests.

  • charts/grid-operator/templates/crds/gridnetwork.yaml#L487-L526: restrict mode to mutual_tls, require sni with minLength: 1, and remove caSecretRef.
  • deploy/crds/gridnetwork.yaml#L479-L518: apply the same regenerated schema.

Update the provider-hop transport schema used by ProviderHopEndpointConfig to
use a dedicated type rather than EndpointTransport, restricting mode to
mutual_tls, requiring a nonblank sni with minLength 1, and omitting caSecretRef.
Regenerate both charts/grid-operator/templates/crds/gridnetwork.yaml (lines
487–526) and deploy/crds/gridnetwork.yaml (lines 479–518) with the same schema
changes.

This remains open. The admission-schema tightening is valid, but is scoped to the separate review/provider-hop-admission-validation branch noted in the PR body. The current controller rejects invalid nonempty provider-hop declarations; an empty withdrawal publishes no provider-hop trust. This PR does not claim admission rejects those invalid fields.

Edit: this is tracked in #321 - Brent

@nerdalert Thanks for the clarification. The finding remains open, with admission-schema tightening deferred to review/provider-hop-admission-validation and tracked in #321.

The controller rejects invalid nonempty provider-hop declarations. Empty withdrawals publish no provider-hop trust. This is an admission-validation gap, not a provider-hop trust bypass.

Learning: In praxis-proxy/grid, the provider-hop declaration handling in operator/src/controller/grid_network.rs rejects invalid declarations for nonempty overlays. Empty withdrawals publish no provider-hop trust. The controller's runtime validation is separate from Kubernetes admission validation of GatewayRef.providerHopEndpoints.

does not publish a replacement AI rollup.

The default image predates empty versioned routing snapshots and is not
compatible with Grid's authoritative no-route publication. The paired Praxis AI
change must be released, and this chart's default image must be updated to that
compatible release, before the next Grid release. Upgrade and roll every
consumer of a Grid-managed overlay before deploying that Grid version.

Generated consumer credentials use a separate two-step opt-in: set
`consumerConfig.enableProjectedCredentials: true`, let Grid render the filter,
and roll out the consumer with the read-only Secret mounts. In this mode, mount
each Secret at `{credentialMountBase}/{secret-namespace}/{secret-name}`, with
its data keys as files (for example,
`/run/secrets/grid-credentials/grid-system/provider-key/token`). Static `file:`
entries continue to use their explicitly configured paths. Only then set
`consumerConfig.supportsProjectedCredentials: true`; Grid retains credential-
bearing overlays until that readiness attestation is present.
