master-v12had remained on the 12.0-era tree while v12.1 through v12.8.3 were released frommaster. It was safely fast-forwarded—without rewriting history—to reconciliation commitbe25a91, which preserves the v12.8.3 tree and the Android fix from #948. As a result, this PR is now focused on five release files instead of replaying the missing v12 history.
