Getting weird error after update #24547

Description

Description

The following code:

<?php/*
	Top index for sites.
*/?>

Resulted in this output:

Fatal error: Uncaught Error: Undefined constant "php" in .../index.php:1 Stack trace: #0 {main} thrown in /var/.../index.php on line 1

But I expected this output instead:

[Empty]

I think this is crushing PHP because I'm not getting error reports in logs too.

Env

My config (added at the end of default php.ini):

short_open_tag = On
expose_php = Off

memory_limit = 128M
max_execution_time = 30
max_input_time = 60

error_reporting = E_ALL & ~E_DEPRECATED & ~E_STRICT
display_errors = Off
log_errors = On
error_log = /var/log/php/php_errors.log

post_max_size = 8M
upload_max_filesize = 2M

    Add a space after "php", this is not a bug in PHP.
