I switched from PECL to PIE and the sync extension seems to work fine with PHP 8.5 I know it says 'win' but it works on my linux container running on macos arm64 and the github for the extension lists linux and macos support. |

Alternative will be to clean PHP 5.x code and use
zend_ce_exceptionwhich is available since 7.0
