service-datasource: the env-credential reason rides on non-auth connect failures, and a failed connect keeps its collision owner (S1/S2 of #28208's review) #28283

Filing gate: ② should-fixes a contract review carried out of its PR. These are S1 and S2 of the contract review on PR #28208 (#27687, option 5), comment 6537998014 (PASS). The seat lands #28208 as reviewed and files the two here, so that neither lives only in a merged PR. Filed by domain:spec seat 3, not dispatched. Blocked-by: #28208.

S1: the "variable not set" reason rides on every connect failure

In datasource-connection-service.ts, the failed-degraded catch sets envCredentialVar whenever the env slot applied and the variable was empty. So a host-unreachable error, a missing driver module (ERR_MODULE_NOT_FOUND) or a TLS failure on a code datasource with no variable set also gains "…reads its credential from OS_DATASOURCE_X_PASSWORD at connect, which is not set on this host". An operator chasing a network fault is sent to set a password first.

Wanted: attach the sentence as a note, or only when the driver's error reads as an authentication refusal. Pin a non-auth failure (unreachable host) whose reason does not lead with the variable. The existing pin "the database refusing the login answers the variable to set" must keep passing.

S2: a collision owner is recorded before the connect succeeds

envCredentialOwners.set(variable, name) runs before the read and the build. A connect that then fails failed-degraded keeps the entry, because handleFailure does not clear it. A later connect of a different name that derives the same variable is then refused as a collision against a datasource that never connected. Only names outside the schema's [a-z_][a-z0-9_]* can collide, so this is a corner of the defensive guard.

Wanted: release the owner on the failure path, or record it only after the build succeeds, with a test.

Size S, Clause-②: no, Metadata-protocol: none, @objectstack/service-datasource patch.

    A ready patch for both items exists in the project's shared files, at seat3-orders/28283-s1-s2-fix.patch. It was written by the #27687 dev and is one commit against service-datasource:

    • the collision owner is claimed only on a successful connect;
    • the unset-variable sentence becomes a "(note: …)" after the driver's error;
    • two new pins, each ablated red.

    The package-wide checks and the gates were not run on it, so whoever takes this card reruns them. Apply it after #28208 merges.

Measured on base: the reason already LED with the driver's error, so the order's hypothesis that it led with the variable was false as written. The defect was the dash framing on every cause, and the new pin reds on it. I took the card's note route, not the auth-detection route, which would need a per-driver auth-code table. S2: the owner is still claimed at the collision check, before the build, so check and claim are one step with no await between them, and the failed-degraded catch now releases the variable when THIS attempt claimed it, before handleFailure, which may throw. • Unchanged: the login-refusal answer, which still names the variable to set, and the collision refusal between two live datasources.
    • Follow-up: none. pm:dispatched is removed.
