Send the nodes. Receive the nodes. Keep them native.
Send Nodes is a Blender extension for sharing complete node groups as native .blend bundles through Git-backed URLs.
The project was first published on March 30, 2024. The current extension preserves that original intent while replacing the early JSON experiment with Blender-native library files.
- Sends the active Geometry, Shader, or Compositor node group to a configured folder inside a local Git repository.
- Packages nested Blender dependencies through Blender's native library writer.
- Copies the corresponding public URL when a base URL is configured.
- Receives a public Git or direct
.blendURL. - Appends a compatible node group and places it directly in the current Node Editor.
Send Nodes does not replace Git history tools such as NodeSync or whole-project version control such as Blender Git. Git is the sharing surface; the exchanged object is a native Blender node-group bundle.
Build the extension with Blender 4.5 LTS or newer:
blender --command extension build --source-dir extension --output-dir distInstall the resulting send_nodes-<version>.zip through Blender's Extensions preferences.
- In the Send Nodes extension preferences, choose a local Git publishing folder and its corresponding public raw-file base URL.
- Open a Node Editor and enter or select a node group.
- In the Send Nodes sidebar, choose Send Active Node Group.
- Commit and push the generated
.blendthrough your preferred Git workflow. - Share the copied URL.
To receive, paste a public .blend URL into the same panel and choose Receive Node Group. GitHub blob URLs are converted to raw download URLs automatically.
