Refiling PR from previous repo since merging branches should be one of the priorities as we get this new repo going.
This PR merges accumulated preview content into trunk in 24 piecemeal commits that attempt to group things roughly by area of interest. The result should be a tree in a state completely equal to current preview. Addition from previous PR is rudimentary attempt at preserving authorship credit via co-authored tags.
