The merged-snapshot release gate found that a fresh Python 3.12 venv bundled vulnerable pip 25.0.1, causing the documented pip-audit command to fail. Upgrade pip before installing the release verification environment, matching the existing Publish to PyPI workflow. Verified from a new Python 3.12 venv: pip 26.2.1 and pip-audit reports no known vulnerabilities.
