Best CodeRabbit Alternatives in 2026

A fact-checked guide to AI code review tools for teams evaluating CodeRabbit: pricing, supported Git platforms, self-hosting, bring-your-own-key and review approach.

Last verified: 6 October 2026. Maintained by Mesrai. We build one of the tools on this list, so every competitor fact links to that vendor's own page. If something is out of date, please open an issue and we will correct it.

Why teams look for CodeRabbit alternatives

  1. Seat price. CodeRabbit's Essentials plan is $24 per developer per month billed annually ($30 monthly), and Team is $48 ($60 monthly) (CodeRabbit pricing). For larger teams this becomes a significant line item.
  2. Paying for AI directly. Some teams already have an OpenAI, Anthropic, Google or AWS Bedrock account and want review traffic billed there, under their own data agreements and spending controls.
  3. Review depth on connected codebases. In monorepos and multi-service systems, a change in one package can break another. Teams want findings that account for how code is connected, not only the lines in the diff.
  4. Business rules, not just code rules. Teams want reviews checked against the ticket the PR implements, and rules written the way their engineers talk.
  5. Regional billing and data needs. Teams in India often want INR billing with GST invoices, and regulated companies may need data residency.

When CodeRabbit is still a good fit

CodeRabbit is a mature product, and it is the right choice for many teams:

  • You want the AI model included in the seat price and do not want to manage an LLM key.
  • You need fine-grained, path-based configuration across a large organisation.
  • You maintain open-source projects; CodeRabbit is widely adopted there (its configuration file appears in over 10,000 public GitHub repositories).

If none of the reasons in the previous section apply to you, staying on CodeRabbit is a reasonable decision.

The alternatives

1. Mesrai

AI code review that reads your repository as a graph, not just the diff. mesrai.com

How it works

  • Architecture-aware review. AST parsing and semantic chunking build a graph of your codebase, so findings account for how changed code connects across files and packages.

  • Multi-agent review. Generalist, bug, security, performance and Mesrai Rules agents review every pull request in parallel. Findings are posted inline, ranked by severity, with suggested fixes.

  • Team rules in plain English or YAML. Import existing Cursor, Copilot, Claude and Windsurf rule files, or start from the 808-rule library:

All API endpoints must validate the request body with Zod.
Never use console.log in production code.
Database queries must use parameterised statements.

  • Business Logic Validation. Checks a PR against its linked Jira or Linear ticket.

What else is included

Bring your own key. OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, AWS Bedrock or any OpenAI-compatible provider. You pay your provider directly, and your code is never used to train any model.

Pricing

Plan Price
Free Trial 14 days, every feature, no credit card
Pro (BYOK) $6 / ₹499 per developer per month, plus your own LLM usage
Enterprise Custom: self-hosted in your VPC, SSO/SAML, RBAC, audit logs, Indian data residency, custom SLA

INR billing with GST invoices for Indian teams; USD billing internationally. Current pricing

Best for: teams that want to pay for AI through their own provider account, teams with connected or multi-service codebases, and teams on GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps.

Trade-offs: you manage an LLM key and that bill; Mesrai is younger than CodeRabbit and its configuration options are less extensive.

2. Greptile

An AI code review agent that reviews pull requests with context from your codebase. greptile.com

  • Pricing: Pro is $30 per seat per month and includes 50 review credits per seat; extra credits are $1 each. 14-day free trial. (Greptile pricing)
  • Platforms: GitHub, GitLab and Bitbucket, among others (docs).
  • Deployment: cloud, plus documented self-hosted, on-prem and air-gapped options.
  • Best for: teams that want codebase-aware review and are comfortable with credit-based pricing.

3. GitHub Copilot code review

Copilot's pull request review, available to teams on a paid Copilot plan. docs.github.com

  • Customisation: repository custom instructions.
  • Platforms: GitHub only.
  • Best for: teams already standardised on GitHub and Copilot that want review without another vendor.

4. PR-Agent

The original open-source pull request reviewer. The-PR-Agent/pr-agent

  • Pricing: free; you host it and pay for your own LLM usage.
  • Platforms: GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket, Azure DevOps and Gitea.
  • Best for: teams with the DevOps capacity to run, update and tune it themselves.

5. Qodo

AI code review for GitHub pull requests that flags logic bugs, edge cases, security issues and code quality problems. qodo.ai

  • Pricing: see Qodo pricing.
  • Best for: teams that also want Qodo's wider tooling for test generation and IDE assistance.

6. CodeAnt AI

An AI code reviewer covering logic bugs, code quality and security, with SOC 2 and HIPAA compliance and on-premise or private-cloud deployment (GitHub Marketplace listing). codeant.ai

  • Best for: teams that want review, quality and security scanning from one vendor, with compliance requirements.

What a 20-developer team pays

Seat prices only, from each vendor's public pricing page on the date above.

Tool Monthly seat cost for 20 developers What else you pay
Mesrai Pro (BYOK) $120 (20 × $6) Your LLM provider bill for review traffic
CodeRabbit Essentials $480 (20 × $24, annual) Usage beyond plan limits
CodeRabbit Team $960 (20 × $48, annual) Usage beyond plan limits
Greptile Pro $600 (20 × $30) $1 per review credit beyond 50 per seat
PR-Agent $0 Your LLM bill plus the infrastructure and time to run it

LLM costs depend on your PR volume, PR size and model choice, so measure them during a trial rather than relying on estimates.

How to test an alternative

  1. Pick 10–20 recently merged pull requests where a bug was later found, from at least two of your repositories.
  2. Install the tool on a fork or a test repository and replay those PRs.
  3. For each tool, record: bugs caught, false alarms, time to first comment and whether the suggested fixes were usable.
  4. Run it on live PRs for one to two weeks with two or three engineers, and collect their feedback.
  5. Compare the full cost: seat price plus LLM usage, at your real PR volume.

Switching from CodeRabbit to Mesrai

  1. Start a free trial (14 days, no credit card).
  2. Connect GitHub, GitLab, Bitbucket or Azure DevOps and choose your repositories.
  3. Add your LLM API key in the Mesrai dashboard.
  4. Open a pull request. Mesrai reviews it automatically and comments on the PR.

No CI/CD changes or workflow files are needed. You can run both tools side by side on the same repositories during evaluation. Setup guide

FAQ

What is the cheapest CodeRabbit alternative? PR-Agent has no licence cost, but you host it and pay your LLM provider. Among managed tools, Mesrai Pro is $6 / ₹499 per developer per month plus your own LLM usage.

Is there a CodeRabbit alternative that lets me use my own LLM key? Yes. Mesrai is built around bring-your-own-key and supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, AWS Bedrock and OpenAI-compatible providers. PR-Agent also uses your own key because you run it yourself.

Which CodeRabbit alternatives support Azure DevOps? Mesrai and PR-Agent support Azure DevOps. CodeRabbit supports it too.

Are there self-hosted alternatives to CodeRabbit? Yes. PR-Agent is self-hosted by design. Greptile documents self-hosted and air-gapped deployments, CodeAnt offers on-premise deployment, and Mesrai offers self-hosting on its Enterprise plan.

Can I run Mesrai and CodeRabbit together while I evaluate? Yes. Both comment on pull requests, so you can install both on the same repositories and compare their reviews on the same PRs.

Does Mesrai train models on my code? No. Your code is never used to train any model. Reviews run on the LLM provider you configure.
