Describe the bug

I can't add a new snippet or add a new folder. I can open other windows like Settings.

Console output:

I'm also seeing a strange error under Settings > Storage. If I try to delete the database I get the following error (I've installed the mac intel dmg):

Error invoking remote method 'db:clear': Error: dlopen(/Applications/massCode.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/better-sqlite3/build/Release/better_sqlite3.node, 0x0001): tried: '/Applications/massCode.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/better-sqlite3/build/Release/better_sqlite3.node' (mach-o file, but is an incompatible architecture (have 'arm64', need 'x86_64h' or 'x86_64')), '/System/Volumes/Preboot/Cryptexes/OS/Applications/massCode.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/better-sqlite3/build/Release/better_sqlite3.node' (no such file), '/Applications/massCode.app/Contents/Resources/app.asar.unpacked/node_modules/better-sqlite3/build/Release/better_sqlite3.node' (mach-o file, but is an incompatible architecture (have 'arm64', need 'x86_64h' or 'x86_64'))

To reproduce

  1. Install massCode
  2. Open massCode
  3. Try to add a new snippet or create a new folder -> nothing happens.
  4. Things like Settings open

According to the error better_sqlite3 (mach-o file, but is an incompatible architecture (have 'arm64', need 'x86_64h' or 'x86_64')), you used an arm build to install on intel.

I tried installing massCode in two different ways:

    • using homebrew
      brew install masscode
    • downloading the dmg massCode-4.2.0.dmg
    shasum -a 256 massCode-4.2.0.dmg
    8bfba94f99c011605065f83967811298d7ec72dd838d49054f8a2c965661bf5a massCode-4.2.0.dmg

hence my bug report, I installed the x86_64 version on an intel-based macOS but I'm getting an error related to arm64. I'm not experienced, but how could I open the arm64 UI in an intel-based macOS?

@antonreshetov please could you reopen the issue? You missed a few details in the bug description, namely that I tested the x86-64 versions available on homebrew and the dmg in this repo, and not the arm64 version.

To be honest, I really regret giving in to the general "request" to use sqlite3 instead of a json structure as a database. And now I'm getting these errors saying that the native module didn't compile properly for the OS, etc. Nothing but problems. I'm already thinking about dropping sqlite3 to hell.

Thanks anyway for your effort. I'll use the latest v3, hopefully you'll have an eureka moment and you'll smash the pesty bug.

I just updated the file in the release for macOS Intel. I tested it on my old Intel-based Mac and it worked. The only thing I encountered was that I had to select a different path for the storage in the application settings, and I still don't understand why.

    Try - https://github.com/massCodeIO/massCode/releases/tag/v4.2.1

    Hi,
    The new release works.
I changed the storage path, removed the app and downloaded the latest one. This was a different one as yesterday. Installed the dmg and all is working now.

    Many thanks for your effort!

    @t-franz

I can confirm the last release (massCode-4.2.1.dmg) works after changing the storage path. Thank you!

The Oct 29th update for version 4.2.1 also did the trick for me. massCode is now working on my intel mac. Thanks Anton for not giving up.

I don't know what kind of strange case you have. As I wrote earlier, I tested it on my old Intel-based Mac and everything worked. Several other people above also confirmed that the application works. In any case, I think I'll close this issue as fixed.

Did you change the storage path in app settings?

Did you change the storage path in app settings?

The storage path I'm using is ~/massCode.

I'm assuming it's the same bug that the other two users were also experiencing.
I just double checked and install the earlier 4.2.1 (38fb4f) and I can replicate all the issues reported (the sqlite masscode.db is in the storage path).
Then, I installed the 4.2.1 from Oct 29th (10d77c) and it works without any of the problems reported.

From my side it's fixed, you may go ahead and close the case. Thanks
