Jack van der Bilt

Former Software engineer gone entrepreneur and fulltime systems thinker. Focused on building reliable technology, improving core processes, and creating organizations that solve meaningful problems with technology.

I work across software development, architecture, automation, process optimization, and organizational design. My primary interest is not technology for its own sake, but technology that measurably improves how people, teams, and systems operate.

Public GitHub activity

This profile does not represent the full scope of my professional work.

I use separate Git accounts for the organizations I work with, and much of my software is maintained privately for reasons including operational stability, security, confidentiality, and long-term maintainability.

As a result, the absence of public repositories here should not be interpreted as an absence of active engineering work.

Open-source collaboration

I am open to contributing to serious open-source projects that create tangible value.

I am particularly interested in projects that:

  • improve software-development efficiency;
  • reduce unnecessary complexity;
  • create better tools for developers;
  • improve accessibility or usability for end users;
  • automate repetitive or error-prone work;
  • strengthen critical digital infrastructure;
  • address meaningful social or organizational problems.
  • allows for better utilization of resources.

I value projects with clear objectives, disciplined engineering practices, responsible maintainership, and a genuine commitment to long-term usefulness.

Beyond software

In addition to engineering, I work on entrepreneurial and societal initiatives.

My broader work focuses on building structures that make services more accessible, organizations more effective, and difficult processes easier to navigate. This includes my initiatives such as De Tandartsfee, which works to improve access to necessary dental care in the Netherlands.

Technology, entrepreneurship, and social impact are not separate interests to me. They are different instruments for solving the same kind of problem: systems that do not work as well as they should.

How I work

I approach problems by examining the complete system rather than immediately optimizing individual components.

That usually means:

  1. defining the actual objective;
  2. identifying constraints and failure points;
  3. removing unnecessary steps and dependencies;
  4. designing the simplest reliable solution;
  5. measuring whether the result produces meaningful improvement.

I care about execution, ownership, clarity, and outcomes.

Collaboration

I am interested in working with engineers, maintainers, founders, and organizations developing technology that has a defensible reason to exist.

Relevant areas include:

  • developer infrastructure;
  • automation;
  • modern workplace technology;
  • public-interest technology;
  • healthcare and social-sector systems;
  • performance and reliability;
  • open-source software with measurable end-user value.
