Why

Jordan suggested not splitting "Build locally" and "Build with an AI agent" and putting everything under Build locally. The two pages are now one, "Build an app locally", with the agent path first and the by-hand path second.

What changed

data-apps/build-locally.mdx (was .md) now holds both paths:

  1. Before you start, shared by both paths.
  2. With an AI agent: the defaults, the client tabs, the prompts, the MCP route, checking the app, other agents and the skill download.
  3. By hand: the app structure, the steps from a terminal and syncing your own repository.
  4. After both paths: how development works, data access, the Storage workaround for CLI-15 and changing the app later.

Other changes:

  • The agent page's Terminal tab is now "From a terminal" under By hand.
  • /data-apps/build-with-an-agent/ redirects to /data-apps/build-locally/. The old anchors #sync-to-your-project and #develop-with-an-ai-coding-tool still work on the new page.
  • The nav has one entry: Apps › Build › Build an app locally.
  • data-apps/index.md is back to "Two ways to build", and the Build locally bullet covers both paths.
  • Links are repointed in what-are-apps, getting-started, troubleshooting, cli/for-agents and ai/ai-kit.
  • Fixes on the way: "and the entrypoint" is gone, because the Git Repository form has no such field. A sentence that had lost its subject is fixed, and a source comment no longer splits a list.

Checks

  • The build is clean, check-cli-reference has 0 findings and audit-phase2 finds 0 broken links. Every anchor that points at the page resolves, and the redirect stub is in place.
  • docs-link-redirect-check finds 0 blockers. Its 16 warnings come from the .md to .mdx rename, which it reads as a retired slug.
  • fact-checker found nothing critical, and guide-tester (a cold read plus read-only kbagent checks) found no blockers. Fixed after their reviews: Before you start defines the stack URL and gives the free project's value, and agents get a one-command push that reads the token from kbagent's JSON output, so no exported variable has to survive between shells. "Change the app later" now covers your own repository too, and the index's half-hour estimate belongs to the by-hand path.
  • New VERIFY flags: whether a fresh free project has Storage Access on (Nikita), what the UI's Download Skill serves (Michal), and whether kbagent config clone copies an app (Nikita).

Heads-up

  • PRDCT-684: document the keboola-config contract and Python/JS troubleshooting in Apps #1128 edits build-locally.md, which this PR deletes, so the two conflict. Whichever lands second carries PRDCT-684: document the keboola-config contract and Python/JS troubleshooting in Apps #1128's changes into build-locally.mdx: the template layout in App structure, "What the repository must contain" (it replaces the one-line keboola-config/ pointer here), "If the app doesn't start", the new description and the reworded Sync steps 2 to 4. That port also settles two guide-tester findings here: the App structure scaffold doesn't match the skill's templates, and the Sync steps skip the deploy wizard.
  • Deep links into the old page, such as /data-apps/build-with-an-agent/#other-agents, land at the top of the new one. The redirect stub is a meta refresh, which drops the fragment; every redirect_from on the site works this way.
  • From a terminal covers the Keboola-managed repository only. kbagent data-app create --git-repo <url> also creates an app from a repository you host; that flow is left for a follow-up.
  • The Apps UI can keep linking /data-apps/build-with-an-agent/, which redirects, or switch to /data-apps/build-locally/#with-an-ai-agent.

🤖 Generated with Claude Code

Jordan suggested one page under Build locally. The agent path comes
first, then the by-hand path, then the sections both share. The old
/data-apps/build-with-an-agent/ URL redirects, the nav has one entry,
and links in six pages point at the new anchors.

Fixes from the fact-checker and guide-tester reviews: Before you start
defines the stack URL, agents get a one-command push that never prints
the token, Change the app later covers your own repository, and the
index's time estimate belongs to the by-hand path.

### What you get by default

Unless the prompt says otherwise, a dashboard comes out as a Python/JS app built with Node.js and Chart.js, with its code in a new Keboola-managed Git repository. The app runs at the `tiny` size, sleeps after 15 minutes without visitors, gets access to your Storage data (on the kbagent route only once the repository block is added, see [If the app can't read Storage](#if-the-app-cant-read-storage)), and sits behind a shared password.

The app runs at the tiny size
tiny -> xsmall

This sentence I would put somewhere further down.
(on the kbagent route only once the repository block is added, see [If the app can't read Storage](#if-the-app-cant-read-storage))

The agent usually can't show you that password, because `kbagent data-app password` needs a Manage API token. The password is on the app's page in Keboola, next to **Open App**: open **Apps** from the left navigation and then your app. The prompt below asks the agent for a direct link to that page.

To make the app public, say so in the prompt. Anyone with its URL can then open it and see the data it shows. Changing an existing app's sign-in, including to single sign-on, belongs in its [Authentication](/data-apps/authentication/) settings.

Again, I would put these paragraphs more down.

Let the user get to the hands on stuff as quickly as possible -> "Set up your client" and build the app.

…s after the hands-on steps

- Before you start: "A table in Storage with the data you want the app to show."
- tiny -> XSmall, and the kbagent Storage caveat is its own sentence.
- "What you get by default" moves below Check the app, so the reader goes
from Before you start straight to Set up your client.

…-693-apps-stage-strip

The base moved What you get by default below Check the app and stopped
repeating the password location there. The agent strip stays under the
section intro, now above Set up your client. The moved section keeps
the base's text, and the password evidence note moves to Check the app,
where the password step and the dialog screenshot are.

#1146 landed on main and GitHub moved this PR onto it. Main also has
#1145 (the Apps pricing split), which touches reference.md and index.md
in other lines. Merged cleanly; the PR's diff against main is unchanged.
