$ whoami

I'm Jared Tan, a Computer Engineering undergraduate at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore and a Software Engineer Intern at Advanced Micro Devices (AMD).

I enjoy turning complicated workflows into useful software, and understanding what makes that software fast, reliable, and maintainable. My work spans backend APIs, full-stack applications, automation, and parallel computing with C++, OpenMP, MPI, and CUDA.

I'm interested in software engineering internships across backend, systems, and performance engineering, and in applying these skills to quantitative research tooling, market-data systems, and trading infrastructure.

Selected projects

Systems & performance

Project Engineering focus
Parallel Traffic Simulation C++20 · OpenMP — Multi-lane Nagel–Schreckenberg simulation with dense/sparse lookup strategies, compact velocity storage, and parallel vehicle updates.
MPI KNN Engine C++17 · OpenMPI — Distributed k-nearest neighbors classification with one shared dataset per node, hierarchical broadcasts, and non-blocking result collection.
CUDA Virus Signature Scanner CUDA · C++20 — GPU-parallel DNA sequence matching for FASTQ/FASTA data, with wildcard support, Phred-score confidence, and shared-memory reductions.

Products & backend engineering

Project Engineering focus
NTU Mods by Bob · Live app TypeScript · Next.js · Express · PostgreSQL — Academic planning for NTU students, connecting a React interface to backend services and relational data through Prisma.
Page Capture JavaScript · Chrome Manifest V3 — Full-page and scrollable-area capture, redaction, raster editing, PNG export, and native selectable-text PDF output.
Resume Optimizer React · JavaScript · PDF.js — Local LinkedIn PDF parsing, editable profile data, LaTeX resume generation, and job-tailoring prompts in a browser-based workflow.

Each repository documents its implementation, setup, and contributor credits.
