What changed

In dark mode, the model menu uses a nearly solid surface so the chat no longer shows through the model names. Other popovers stay glassy. Light mode is unchanged.

Fixes #864

Why

The dark popover glass is a 2% tint. On the model menu, that lets the transcript show through the names and section labels. Light mode menus are already opaque for this reason.

UI

Model menu only, dark mode. Sidebar opacity, main pane glass, and the other menus are unchanged. Checked in the running app: the open model list sits on a solid panel and the background does not show through the names.

Checklist

  • I ran npm run check
  • This PR is small and focused
  • I did not mix unrelated changes

npm run check was not run. This is a CSS-only change, checked by opening the model menu in the dev app.

In dark themes, transcript content can show through labels in the secondary model picker, making choices harder to scan. The impact is localized, but the selector should include these pickers.

Apply the solid model surface to secondary model pickers.

When a user opens the secondary model target picker in a dark theme, its provider, model, and effort popovers use data-provider-target, not data-model-picker. The new selector does not match them, so they retain the 2% glass background and the transcript can show through their labels.

Suggested fix
-html:not(.theme-light) :has(> [data-model-picker]) > .popover-backdrop {
+html:not(.theme-light)
+  :has(> [data-model-picker], > [data-provider-target])
+  > .popover-backdrop {

@Slowper can you share some screenshots of the change. the reaason we keep it transaprent is because opaque backgrounds on models and popovers look off on a more transparent view

Here is the model menu after the change. Only this dark model list uses the solid surface. Other menus stay transparent. @hardbeat920

thank you @Slowper unfortunately this wouldn't look very well on a more transparent background. What was the reason to make it more opaque? Maybe we can come up with a different solution

The chat was showing through the model names, so the list was hard to read. A solid panel was the smallest way to stop that, but I agree it can look heavy on a transparent view. Happy to try something lighter if you have a direction in mind.

Sorry for the late reply. But I am currently on macOS 27.0.1. This change was made for the two reports on #864. On this Mac the names stay readable. The first shot is before the fix. The second is after it, on the same screen.
