Keep Claude conversations when switching accounts - #955
furkansandal wants to merge 2 commits into
Conversation
- Switching the account of a Claude session keeps the same conversation instead of opening an empty one; the next request uses the new account - Copy the transcript (and its side folder) to the new account's config directory so `claude --resume` continues it unchanged - Clear the session's usage limit when the account is switched - Other providers and busy sessions keep the previous behavior Co-Authored-By: Claude Haiku 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

- Line 1284: Update the `from == to` check to compare the physical identities of
the source and destination directories before copying; treat paths that resolve
to the same directory as identical and skip the copy to avoid copying a file
onto itself.
- Line 1238: Update the transcript transfer around std::fs::copy to copy into a
temporary file, then replace the existing target only after the copy succeeds.
Stage the associated side folder before reporting the transfer as successful.

- Copy the transcript and side folder to staging paths first, then rename them into place, so a failed copy keeps the previous transfer intact - Detect a target that resolves to the same folder through symlinks and skip the copy, instead of comparing config directory paths - Add tests for replacing an earlier copy and for symlinked config dirs Co-Authored-By: Claude Haiku 5.5 <noreply@anthropic.com>

When
has_side_folderis true, the code replaces the transcript, removes the existing side folder, and then renames the staged side folder. The finalstd::fs::renamecan fail after staging, for example if a concurrent filesystem change removes the staged path or recreates the destination. The function then returns an error with the old side folder already deleted and the new transcript already installed.Staging and the self-copy checks do not make this commit transactional. Keep the existing transcript and side folder in unique same-directory backups, install both staged paths, and restore the backups if either installation fails. Delete the backups only after both installations succeed.

What changed
Switching the account of an existing Claude session now keeps the same conversation. The session stays open, its transcript is copied to the newly selected account, and the next request resumes it there unchanged (no compaction or summary). Other providers, and sessions that are busy, keep the previous behavior.
Why
When a Claude account hits its usage limit, switching to another account opened an empty chat, losing the context. Two places caused it: the account picker opened a new session for any conversation with messages, and the Claude adapter dropped
--resumewhenever the account changed, because the transcript lives in the old account's config directory.claude_transfer_transcriptcommand copies<session>.jsonland its side folder between account config directories. It is covered by Rust tests.UI
No layout or chrome change. Behavior only: the account picker now switches the current session instead of creating a new one.
