What changed

UsageFooter takes onToggleProjectTerminal and projectTerminalOpen. When the project dock already has terminals the button now toggles instead of only showing/focusing, and aria-pressed plus accent follow dock.open while the Terminal label still follows has-terminals. App passes the toggle handler and open state.

Why

Fixes #755. Previously the second click refocused the open dock and the button stayed highlighted after Cmd+` collapsed it, unlike the running-process chip and toggle-terminal action.

UI

No layout change; footer Terminal button highlights only while the dock is open.

Checklist

  • I ran npm run check:web (full vitest 4708 passed excluding macOS ._ AppleDouble files; tsc --noEmit clean; UsageFooter + Auth tests 8/8 green)
  • This PR is small and focused
  • I did not mix unrelated changes

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • The Terminal button now reflects whether the project terminal is open and toggles it when selected. If no active project terminal is available to toggle, selecting the button creates a new terminal. Its pressed state and appearance stay aligned with the terminal dock’s open state.

The footer Terminal button called onShowProjectTerminal when the dock
already had terminals, so it could open/focus but never collapse, and
aria-pressed/accent tracked has-terminals instead of dock.open. Wire it
to onToggleProjectTerminal and base pressed state on projectTerminalOpen,
keeping the Terminal label on has-terminals.

📝 Walkthrough

The footer Terminal button now toggles the project terminal dock. Its pressed and accent states reflect whether the dock is open. Terminal presence remains a separate state.

Changes: Project terminal footer toggle

Layer / File(s) Summary
Footer toggle behavior
src/app/shell/UsageFooter.tsx, src/app/shell/UsageFooter.test.ts
The footer accepts a project-terminal toggle callback and a separate open-state prop. The button uses the toggle callback and reflects the dock’s open state. Tests cover dock states and callback selection.
App callback and open-state wiring
src/app/App.tsx
App passes the toggle callback and the current project dock’s open state to the footer. App removes the previous show-and-focus handler. The existing active state remains.

The footer now toggles the project dock and reflects its open state when the button is shown. The running-terminal-chip overlap remains unchanged from the PR base, so this change adds no new merge-blocking risk.

Thanks for picking this up @rxchitrx . I filed #755 and had a local fix half done, so I'm happy to let this one land instead. The logic matches what I had, so behavior-wise it looks right to me.

One thing: with the toggle wired in, onShowTerminal / onShowProjectTerminal are dead now. App passes all three callbacks under the same !monoCovers && isLocalProject(projectCwd) guard, so the toggle always wins when the dock has terminals and onNewTerminal always wins when it doesn't. Might as well drop the show handler and prop instead of leaving them around (the new click test's onShowTerminal assertion would go too).

That also covers the CodeRabbit point: the inactive branch can just fall back to the toggle, onNewTerminal ?? onToggleProjectTerminal, since the toggle already opens a new terminal when there's no dock.

Thanks @EricRasputin! Good catch — I’ve removed the unused show handler and prop, added the toggle fallback, and covered it with regression tests. Really appreciate you reviewing this and letting this fix land instead of yours.

🎯 Functional Correctness | 🟡 Minor | ⚡ Quick win

Keep the project-terminal toggle available beside running terminals.

When an open project dock has no foreground process and a workspace tab has a running process, the footer shows the running-terminal chip. Selecting the tab terminal focuses or selects its tab but does not close the dock. Keep onToggleProjectTerminal available beside the chip when projectTerminalActive is true, and add a test for this overlap.

Prepare the existing terminal toggle fix for the current UsageFooter/UsageChips split. The toggle changes will be reapplied to the current layout after main is merged.
Temporarily reset App wiring to the common base so GitHub can merge current main without overlapping changes. Keep the terminal regression tests and reapply the toggle wiring to the current layout next.
Preserve the UsageChips extraction and provider usage changes from main. The footer toggles an existing project terminal dock, and its pressed state follows whether the dock is open. Keep the regression tests from this PR.
