Glossary result count is not announced when filtering #52

Description

@pushpam2404

Context

#glossary-count has aria-live="polite" and its text is replaced on every keystroke. Updating a live region on every character produces a stream of interruptions, which in practice makes screen reader users turn it off or leave.

What to change

Files: js/glossary.js

Requirements:

  • Debounce the announcement so it fires once the reader stops typing, not per character
  • The visible count should still update immediately — only the announcement is debounced
  • Roughly 300–500ms is the usual range; justify what you pick
  • Do not remove the live region; the fix is timing, not deletion

Acceptance criteria

  • The visible count updates instantly as you type
  • The announcement fires once after typing stops
  • Verified with a real screen reader
  • Rapid typing does not queue up a backlog of announcements

How to verify locally

python3 -m http.server 8000

Then open http://localhost:8000.
