The event schedule on the home page is hardcoded in HTML #51

Description

@pushpam2404

Context

index.html contains the October schedule as a hand-written <table>. Changing a date means editing markup, and there is nothing stopping the table disagreeing with reality — it already listed an event under a name that had changed.

What to change

Files: index.html, a new data/events.json, a new script

Requirements:

  • Move the schedule into data/events.json
  • Render the table from it, following the pattern in js/glossary.js
  • Keep the table rendered as a real <table> with a <caption> — do not lose the semantics
  • The page must still be usable without JavaScript, so decide deliberately whether to keep a static fallback and say why in the pull request

Acceptance criteria

  • The table renders from the JSON and looks unchanged
  • Adding an event means editing only the JSON
  • The table keeps its caption and header semantics
  • The no-JavaScript behaviour is deliberate and explained
  • The JSON parses

How to verify locally

python3 -m http.server 8000

Then open http://localhost:8000.

Difficulty

Intermediate. The no-JavaScript decision is the part worth thinking about.
