DRwrap

license Matrix Donate

drwrap-10mb.mp4

A wrapper for Davinci Resolve on Linux that fixes codec & clipboard issues and just works. Currently it:

  • Fixes broken drag 'n' drops
  • Automatically converts unsupported codecs on import
  • Fixes pasting from clipboard

Install

AUR

yay -S drwrap

pipx

pipx install drwrap

Manual

curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/fedsfarm/drwrap/main/install.sh | sh

Setup

drwrap setup

Creates/replaces a .desktop entry and a systemd user service

The daemon converts drops, handles Ctrl+V, and heals clips that land in the media pool by other routes. drwrap setup installs and enables it as drwrap.service

Needs FFmpeg + DaVinci Resolve (either edition) installed.

Watch folder

Drop files into ~/Videos/ResolveDrop and they get converted, then imported automatically on Studio. Converted copies stay in ~/Videos/ResolveIngest — drag them in yourself on Free, and don't delete the folder, your projects point at it.

More: commands, config, how it works
drwrap # open Resolve + converter (what the launcher runs)
drwrap daemon # converter only (Resolve already open)
drwrap ingest FILE... # convert + import now (-n shows the decision instead)
drwrap paste # ingest clipboard files (bind to a hotkey)
drwrap setup # --adopt wraps Resolve's own launcher, --remove undoes
drwrap doctor # health check, every problem gets a fix line
drwrap cache # status | prune | clear
drwrap config # init | show | path

Supported platforms

Officially supported and tested by me on Arch + Hyprland with Resolve Studio 21, but it should work on other setups

Feature Hyprland KDE Plasma (Wayland) Other WMs/DEs
Heal clips after a native drop ✅ Studio only *✅ Studio only
Clipboard paste (drwrap paste / Ctrl+V) *✅
Watch folder *✅
Auto-import + timeline placement ✅ Studio only ² *✅ Studio only ²
Conversion progress notification *✅

* — reportedly

On Free (no scripting API) converted files are staged in the ready folder for a manual drag into Resolve

Contribution

I can't test and maintain every platform. PRs are very welcome:

Append ?template=platform-test.md (etc.) to the PR URL to preload one.
