Markus Baumann

I'm Markus Baumann, a researcher at LMU Munich / QAR-Lab working on mathematical and stochastic models for time-series forecasting, Quantum Reservoir Computing, and Quantum Machine Learning.

I am interested in the science of the future: agentic research workflows, AI-assisted experimentation, faster validation loops, and new ways to accelerate science while making it more robust, reproducible, inspectable, and useful.

I care about rapid prototyping for research and engineering: moving from ideas to experiments, artifacts, and full applications in days, not months.

Current research focus

  • Mathematical and stochastic models for temporal data, uncertainty, and dynamical systems.
  • Time-series forecasting and evaluation under stochastic and nonlinear dynamics.
  • Quantum Reservoir Computing for temporal processing and forecasting tasks.
  • Quantum Machine Learning and mathematical models of quantum information processing.
  • Statistical evaluation, uncertainty quantification, and reproducible computational research.
  • How modern research workflows can be accelerated with AI while keeping verification and reproducibility central.

🔬 Open Research

Selected research papers and accompanying reproducibility packages. Each entry connects the manuscript with the code, data, documentation, and artifacts needed to inspect and reproduce the reported results. Repositories still under review or release preparation are marked private.

Parity Supervision as a Driver of Generalization in Quantum Generative Modeling (2026) Accepted at QCE26 — Quantum–GenAI Co-Design & Co-Discovery (QGDD) Technical Papers Separates the effect of parity/Walsh-moment supervision from the IQP architecture and tests generalization to unseen valid states. arXiv · repository (private)
Exploiting More Than Symmetry in Variational Quantum Machine Learning (2026) Accepted at QCE26 — 4th International Workshop on Quantum Machine Learning: From Research to Practice Shows that symmetry defines the admissible circuit family, while task-aligned trainable interactions drive the larger generalization gains. arXiv · repository (public)
Where a Quantum Reservoir Works: A Transferable Operating Band (2026) Accepted at QCE26 — 4th International Workshop on Quantum Machine Learning: From Research to Practice Identifies a stable, mechanism-backed operating band that transfers across tasks, reservoir initializations, and chronological holdouts, and shows that a task-free memory diagnostic can locate promising regimes before target-task tuning. arXiv · repository (public)

From Quantum Shots to Training Data: Reorganizing Measurement Records in Quantum Machine Learning (2026) Preprint; submitted to IEEE QAI 2026 Shows that validation-selected shot grouping turns a fixed measurement record into better training views, improving finite-shot learning at unchanged quantum execution cost. arXiv · repository (private)
Exploiting Symmetry in Quantum Reservoir Computing (2026) Preprint; submitted to IEEE QAI 2026 Provides a sufficient end-to-end construction for symmetry-preserving QRC and shows that alignment gains persist in noisy simulation, on IBM hardware, and on real weather data. arXiv · repository (private)
