I'm a chemist who builds data and software tools for chemical research. I did my PhD at the University of York at the interface of experimental science, data and scientific programming, where I built models to understand reactivity in chemical systems and developed software to help my group process and interpret complex chemical data.
I'm now a lecturer at Oxford, developing computational practical exercises that build students' confidence with digital and programming skills. I care a lot about making this field approachable, so alongside the tools I've shared here, I'm writing lessons to help chemistry researchers get to grips with the fundamentals of cheminformatics, computational chemistry and scientific coding.
Focus: data-driven experimental R&D, computational chemistry and cheminformatics, lab automation and instrumentation.
Tools I work with: Python, R, RDKit, pandas / scikit-learn, the tidyverse, Shiny, DFT (Gaussian, Turbomole), and Raspberry Pi / Pi Pico for instrument prototyping.
Selected projects:
- rdkit-structure-generation - generate 3D molecular structures from SMILES libraries with RDKit.
- reactir-viewer - interactive Shiny app for exploring time-resolved in-situ IR data (live demo).
Background: co-author on 11 peer-reviewed papers, a departmental crystallography service role, and two years of delivering chemistry and digital skills education at Oxford.
