Description

The commit messages it generates are usually too descriptive and don't look like something a human would write

Suggested Solution

I want to have a way to make the commit messages not only be one line but also be generated just from the file names that have changed
Or, let the commits generate in a way that wouldn't require a lot of tokens
Token limit, or context limit that when reached would generate the message from what it got
It should give an overall overview of what has changed and not go into the details

thanks for the suggestion.

the one-line part already exists via config:

oco config set OCO_ONE_LINE_COMMIT=true

that makes the prompt ask for one concise overview instead of detailed/per-file style output.

what we don’t support yet is a filename-only / low-token mode. today opencommit still generates from git diff --staged content, and for large diffs it chunks the diff by token budget rather than falling back to changed filenames or producing a single high-level summary.

i think the useful follow-up here would be one of:

1. add a config option like OCO_SUMMARY_MODE=true or OCO_DIFF_MODE=files, where the prompt receives only changed file names.
2. auto-switch to that mode when the diff exceeds the configured token budget.
3. improve the existing chunking flow so large diffs produce one final summarized commit message instead of multiple detailed chunk messages.

keeping this open as a valid feature request for the filename-only / auto-summary behavior
