Diffusion Studio Editor

What is Diffusion Studio?

Diffusion Studio is an open-source, AI-native video editor that runs as a desktop application with a powerful CLI (dapi). It lets agents watch, listen, and cut footage on a timeline — then hands off to a full editing interface for human refinement.

Built for the era of generative AI. Every output opens in a real video editing interface, so you can pick up exactly where the agent left off.

Why Diffusion Studio

Traditional Editors Diffusion Studio
AI Integration Plugin-based, bolted on AI-native, built from the ground up
Agent Control Manual only Full CLI (dapi) for programmatic editing
Generative Assets Import external Generate images, video, voiceover in-code
Compositions Timeline-only Code + Timeline (SolidJS JSX)
Platform Windows / Mac / Linux Windows (x64) with Mac upstream

Features

Video Editing

Raw footage into a finished cut. Multi-track timeline, trimming, splitting, transitions, and effects — all controllable via CLI or UI.

Motion Graphics

Explainers, promos, title sequences. Compose with SolidJS JSX, animate with GSAP, render with WebGPU.

Generative Assets

Declare AI-generated images, video, and voiceover in code. They render on mount and become first-class editor nodes.

const hero = generate.image({ prompt: "A neon city at night, cinematic" });
const motion = generate.video({ prompt: "slow camera push-in", startFrame: hero });
const voice = generate.voice({ text: "Welcome to the future.", voice: "default" });

Clipping & Repurposing

Pull highlights from long videos, reformat for social. Vertical, square, any aspect ratio.

Video Understanding

Summaries, scene search, quotes with timestamps. The agent watches so you don't have to.

Quick Start

1. Install the Desktop App

Download the latest Windows installer from Releases:

Diffusion Studio Setup 0.132.1.exe

The installer adds dapi to your system PATH and registers the diffusion:// protocol handler.

2. Install the AI Skill

npx skills add diffusionstudio/skills -g

3. Start Editing

Open your AI assistant (Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, Gemini CLI) and type:

/editor Create a 30-second promo with cinematic transitions and bold typography

CLI at a Glance

The core loop is three commands:

dapi open # Launch the editor (use -b for headless)
dapi mount hero.tsx # Render a composition into the canvas
dapi node render -o hero.mp4 # Export the scene to disk

Prompt Examples

Motion graphics
/editor Create a ~20-second promo for vercel-labs/native in Vercel's presentation style.
Research its official website, GitHub, and brand guidelines; use authentic assets and
verified product features, with crisp typography, polished motion, and a strong final CTA.
/editor Recreate the 3blue1brown animation from https://youtu.be/HEfHFsfGXjs, closely
matching its visual style, pacing, framing, colors, labels, and transitions.
Video editing
/editor Edit the footage in /path/to/folder
/editor Turn this footage into a polished YouTube video. Add readable captions and an
attention-grabbing graphic in the opening to give viewers a strong visual hook.
Clipping for social
/editor Pull the best 30-second moment from https://youtu.be/MtQ0qxyf-Ds and make a
vertical version for social.
/editor Make a 15-second version of this launch video.

Video understanding
/watch In three bullets, explain what starts the conflict. Include timestamps.

/watch Name three recurring locations and give one visual cue that distinguishes each.

Compositions as Code

Compositions are SolidJS modules. dapi mount compiles them and renders each element into an editable node in the document.

import { For } from "solid-js";
import { generate } from "@diffusionstudio/jsx";

const hero = generate.image({ prompt: "A neon city at night, cinematic" });
const motion = generate.video({ prompt: "slow camera push-in", startFrame: hero });

const TITLES = [
  { text: "The Grid", start: 0, end: 2.5 },
  { text: "Neon Nights", start: 2.5, end: 5 },
];

export default function Project() {
  return (
    <rect scene="intro" name="Intro" width={1920} height={1080} fill="black">
      <video src={motion} width={1920} height={1080} />
      <sequence>
        <For each={TITLES}>
          {(t) => (
            <text
              textAlign="center"
              textBaseline="middle"
              fontSize={128}
              width={1920}
              height={1080}
              fill="white"
              start={t.start}
              end={t.end}
            >
              {t.text}
            </text>
          )}
        </For>
      </sequence>
    </rect>
  );
}

Seeing and Hearing Media

The CLI ships inspection tools for agents to work with media they cannot watch:

dapi media probe clip.mp4 # Container + codec metadata
dapi media grab clip.mp4 -t 0 12 45                      # Decode frames to PNGs
dapi media filmstrip clip.mp4 # Grid of video frames
dapi media waveform track.mp3 # Audio waveform, silence flagged
dapi media transcribe interview.wav # Timed, word-level transcript
dapi media listen interview.mp4 -p "what is said?" # Multimodal analysis
dapi node capture # See the canvas itself
