A VS Code extension that provides an AI-powered coding assistant directly in your workspace. It helps with answering coding questions, proposing actionable changes (like file creations or patches), and managing project contexts.
- Chat Interface: Interact with the AI via a dedicated chat view for coding queries.
- Actionable Suggestions: Proposes code changes, new files, or explanations based on workspace context.
- Workspace Awareness: Reads project structure, open files, and configurations (e.g., from package.json and tsconfig.json).
- AI Integration: Uses an AI service for concise, professional responses tailored to your code.
The extension uses Bun for package management (see bun.lock). Build and package using scripts from package.json:
- Install dependencies:
bun install - Compile TypeScript:
bun run compile(assumes a "compile" script liketsc -p ./) - Package the extension:
bun run package(assumes a "package" script likevsce package, generating pca.vsix) - Install locally in VS Code: Open VS Code, go to Extensions view, click "..." > "Install from VSIX..." and select the generated
.vsixfile. - Reload VS Code.
If your package.json has custom scripts (e.g., "watch" for development or "lint" for checks), use them accordingly, like bun run watch for live compilation.
- Activate the extension (it auto-activates on workspace load).
- Open the chat view: Use the command
Personal Code Assistant: Open Chator via the activity bar. - Ask coding-related questions, e.g., "How do I add a new TypeScript file?" – the AI will respond with explanations or actionable proposals.
- For non-coding queries, it redirects politely.
Example interaction:
- User: "Rewrite this function in src/extension.ts."
- AI: Provides explanation and a modify action.
