Relicense Drover from AGPL-3.0-or-later to Apache-2.0, committing to a single permissive open-source license across the project. The contributor history is clean (Backchain LLC holds copyright on all code), so the relicense is unilaterally valid.

Changes

  • LICENSE: full canonical Apache-2.0 text
  • pyproject.toml: SPDX license = "Apache-2.0"; add authors/maintainers and [project.urls] (Homepage, Repository, Documentation)
  • README: License section names Apache-2.0; new About block with dual attribution (Chris Krough as author, Backchain as legal home) and reciprocal links
  • CONTRIBUTING: Apache-2.0, contributors retain copyright, no CLA/DCO/assignment; documents the new-file Apache header convention
  • NOTICE: Copyright (C) 2025 Backchain LLC
  • CITATION.cff: enables GitHub's "Cite this repository" widget; license Apache-2.0
  • docs/adr/008: records the relicense decision and rationale
  • assets/drover-social-card.png: 1280x640 social preview card

Manual follow-up

  • Upload assets/drover-social-card.png as the repo social preview (Settings -> Social preview)
  • GitHub re-detects the license as Apache-2.0 automatically once this merges to the default branch

Flip Drover from AGPL-3.0-or-later to Apache-2.0 under the single-license
open-source decision (Apache-2.0 for all repositories). Contributor audit is
clean: Backchain LLC holds copyright on all code, so the relicense is valid.
