MMM Config Setup

MMM-Config Setup

MMM-MessageCenter includes its own setup schema for MMM-Config. If both modules are installed, MMM-Config automatically shows MessageCenter as a guided form. No connector or extra runtime configuration is required.

What the form provides

Settings are organized into sections for:

  • Display mode and visible message count
  • Message history and attention behavior
  • MagicMirror notification adapters and rain alerts
  • Optional page routing
  • REST webhook, MQTT, and local Unix socket transports
  • Image snapshot safety and cache limits
  • Advanced notification mappings and compatibility options

Choices such as display mode, urgency, and retention use selectable values. Ports, limits, and time intervals receive basic validation. Webhook tokens and MQTT passwords are masked while editing.

Using it

  1. Install MMM-MessageCenter and MMM-Config normally.
  2. Open MMM-Config and choose MMM-MessageCenter.
  3. Enable the module, choose a MagicMirror position, and select the display mode that fits the mirror.
  4. Expand only the sections needed for the integrations you use.
  5. Save the configuration and restart MagicMirror when prompted.

For a typical non-touch mirror, start with line display mode, disable page routing, and leave optional network transports disabled until needed.

Security note

Masked fields keep credentials out of casual view in the form, but they are still written to the normal private MagicMirror config.js; masking is not encryption. Use a webhook token when listening on the local network, keep the port off the public internet, and review MQTT and private-image-host settings before enabling them.

MMM-Config is optional. Removing or disabling it does not affect MessageCenter at runtime, and the same settings can always be edited directly in config.js.
