FOCIVE

FOCIVE is a personal attention-protection Android app designed to help you reclaim time from distracting apps through strict usage limits, persistent blocking, and real device usage insights.

How It Works

FOCIVE operates on a strict penalty and protection cycle to ensure you stay away from targeted apps:

1. Daily Limit Reached: FOCIVE immediately blocks the application.
2. 1-Hour Block: The app remains completely inaccessible for one hour.
3. Reduced Session: Once the block lifts, you get a short window to use the app again.
4. 2-Hour Block: If you exceed the reduced session, the app is blocked for 2 hours.
5. Repeated Protection: This cycle continues, gradually increasing your time away from distractions.

Note: The state persists locally. Midnight resets the daily limits, but active blocks are enforced based on their exact expiration timestamps.

Installation

1. Download the app-release.apk file from the link above to your Android device.
2. Open the downloaded file.
3. If prompted, allow your browser or file manager to "Install unknown apps".
4. Follow the on-screen instructions to install FOCIVE.
5. Open FOCIVE and grant the necessary permissions (Usage Access, Display over other apps, Accessibility Service, and Notifications) to enable protection.

Permissions

FOCIVE requires several sensitive Android permissions to function properly. We believe in complete transparency:

• Usage Access: Required to measure actual app and device usage time. This is how FOCIVE knows when a limit has been reached.
• Accessibility Service: Required to detect when a protected app is opened and to enforce the blocking overlay immediately. This is the core mechanism that prevents you from bypassing limits.
• Display Over Other Apps: Required to show the blocking intervention screen over the distracting application.
• Notifications: Required to show the persistent active-status notification, ensuring FOCIVE remains running in the background and keeps you informed of your remaining time.

Privacy

FOCIVE is a completely local, offline application designed for your personal use.

• Zero Data Collection: FOCIVE does not connect to the internet.
• Local Storage Only: All usage statistics, limits, and blocking states are stored locally on your device in a Room Database.
• No Accounts: You do not need to create an account to use FOCIVE.
• No Analytics: There are no third-party tracking or analytics SDKs included. Your usage data never leaves your device.

Building From Source

To build FOCIVE locally:

1. Clone the repository: git clone https://github.com/amanml2026/FOCIVE.git
2. Open the project in Android Studio.
3. Sync the project with Gradle files.
4. Debug Build: Click the "Run" button or use ./gradlew assembleDebug.
5. Release Build:
   • A release.jks keystore is required.
   • Create a keystore.properties file in the root directory with your keystore credentials (storeFile, storePassword, keyAlias, keyPassword).
   • Run ./gradlew assembleRelease.
