RVR Runtime — Android phones, BlueStacks & AOSP

Русский · Build · Release provenance

Android OpenXR runtime for the RVR desktop VR pipeline. This repository contains the source and latest locally packaged 0.5.0 APKs for Android phones, BlueStacks and the RVR AOSP project. All APKs are ARM64 Android applications, loaded inside the game process; they are not Windows executables.

Target Download from this repository Source Build date
Android phone RVR-Runtime-Phone.apk src/bluestacks (shared stable core) 2026-08-31
BlueStacks RVR-Runtime-BlueStacks.apk src/bluestacks 2026-08-31
RVR AOSP RVR-Runtime-AOSP.apk src/aosp 2026-09-19

APK version: 0.5.0 / code 9. Package: org.questlab.openxr_runtime. Phone and BlueStacks share the stable source snapshot, built with different transport flags. The two source snapshots are intentionally separate: the AOSP fork implements GFXStream frame metadata ABI v2, which the BlueStacks release does not use. No new runtime version or device qualification is implied by this packaging.

Install

Use the RVR Server/launcher matching your platform. BlueStacks requires the RVR host Vulkan layer and SteamVR proxy; AOSP requires the matching modified emulator/GFXStream and AOSP proxy. Those components are separate projects. Phones use the HEVC/AAC USB transport and the corresponding RVR Server mode. The AOSP APK alone does not turn a stock Android emulator into an RVR host.

With Android SDK and JDK configured as in BUILD.md:

.\Install-Broker.ps1 -Device '<adb-serial>'
adb -s '<adb-serial>' install -r .\distrib\RVR-Runtime-BlueStacks.apk
# For the RVR AOSP project, use RVR-Runtime-AOSP.apk instead.
# For an ARM64 Android 11+ phone, use RVR-Runtime-Phone.apk instead.

Select RVR Runtime in the OpenXR broker. The broker XAPK includes required splits; use the supplied installer instead of installing its base APK alone. All variants share a package ID, so install one variant per Android instance. The original APKs retain their development signatures. Locally rebuilt APKs use a new local key and may not install as an update over these binaries.

Compatibility

Phones require Android 11+ and a usable hardware HEVC encoder. Grant Android playback-capture permission in the runtime for optional AAC audio. Manta's phone path has prior validation; PILO, Wrath 2 and Nexus phone operation is not claimed as validated by this release.

BlueStacks 5.22.260.1024 is the 0.5.0 Nexus baseline. Runtime profiles include Manta, PILO, Wrath 2, Nexus and Generic. Nexus movie playback still has HEVC and CPU-readback limitations. Historical details are in each source snapshot's documentation.

The AOSP package contains frame/pose synchronization, per-eye rectangles and array layers (ABI v2), video staging fixes and the Wrath texture-pool adjustment. It retains an opt-in Manta test harness; debug.rvr.test_manta_slot defaults to zero and must remain zero for normal play. Existing AOSP launch tests are not a claim of full game compatibility or sustained target FPS.

Develop and verify

.\Test-Runtime.ps1
.\Build-Runtime.ps1 -Variant all
.\Test-Runtime.ps1 -NativeTests
.\tools\Package-Release.ps1

Build output goes to artifacts/builds; original release APKs in distrib are preserved. Release archives go to artifacts/release. The inherited Gradle files are source metadata; use the PowerShell build to select the desktop transport and static C++ runtime.
