B.Y.T.E. is a distributed, event-sourced cognitive runtime architecture that unifies perception, reasoning, and action through a Git-like world-state graph. Instead of improving AI agents through larger models or more context, it tests a single hypothesis: can accumulated structure substitute for repeated inference? The system converts past reasoning into reusable structure — memory artifacts, knowledge artifacts, and macros — so that the minimum reasoning required to achieve a task decreases over time. Skills in the existing harness format provide optional seed behaviors; when installed, the system compiles personalized, optimized macros with provenance links back to their source. A companion code registry provides tested, versioned components for software development tasks.
In simple terms: B.Y.T.E. is a system that learns from its own experience. Instead of re-thinking every problem from scratch, it builds up a library of what it has learned — facts it knows, patterns it has seen, and solutions it has found — so that over time, it needs less and less computation to do the same work.
This project is in the design phase. Implementation has not yet begun. This document set defines the target architecture.
Can accumulated structure substitute for repeated inference?
The mechanism is a continuous loop:

The thesis is tested across four phases. If Phase 4 (Memory + Knowledge) does not demonstrate a measurable reduction in reasoning cost for equivalent outcomes, the core thesis fails. Phases 5–6 are experimental extensions built on that foundation.
