Summary

Repo-wide markdown cleanup, following the staged-file markdown lint hook added in #1565. No code is touched, and no wording is changed.

  • List, heading and fence spacing across the docs (mechanical auto-fix plus manual repairs of broken nesting).
  • Table style normalised; the rendered HTML is byte-identical for all 127 changed files.
  • Fence languages and heading levels added or fixed; every json block validates as JSON.
  • Config: MD001, MD025 (front-matter title allowed), MD040 and MD060 are re-enabled. MD013 (line length), MD036, MD029 and MD028 stay off, each with a one-line reason in .markdownlint.jsonc. Nested configs relax MD033 for the agent and prompt files that use XML-style tags, and docs/patches/, CLAUDE.md and .claude/ are ignored.

make lint-markdown now reports 0 issues repo-wide, so the pre-commit hook no longer blocks edits to older docs.

Verification

  • Docs-site build (npm run build in docs-site) succeeds after the first commit and at the end, with no warnings.
  • Front matter unchanged in every touched file; the list/heading commit changes rendered HTML in 32 files, reviewed (looser list spacing, repaired nesting and fences, autolinked URLs).
  • Auto-fixes that would have broken content were reverted (tabs in Makefile/Go code blocks, code-span spacing, a version string turned into a mailto link, ordered-list start numbers).

Claude Code helped produce this change.

Apply the markdownlint auto-fixes (blank lines around headings, lists and
fences, list indentation and markers, bare URLs, heading punctuation) and
repair a few structurally broken lists, fences, tables and image alt text so
every tracked markdown file passes the staged-file lint hook.

Supporting config: allow tabs inside code blocks, allow the basic HTML
elements used by the README, disable the numbered-list-continuation and
adjacent-blockquote rules, and skip docs/patches (a raw diff pasted as
markdown). The agent and prompt directories get a nested config because
they wrap prompt sections in XML-style tags.
Rewrite every table with inconsistent pipe spacing in the compact style
(rendered output is identical) and drop the MD060 disable. MD025 now ignores
the front-matter title, which the docs-site pages intentionally repeat as
their H1.
Label every bare fenced code block (text for output and diagrams, bash and
json only where the content is unambiguous), repair a nested template fence
in CONTRIBUTING.md and a skipped heading level in the testing README, and
re-enable the fence-language and heading-increment rules.
CLAUDE.md and .claude/ use XML-style tags and are edited deliberately; the repo-wide markdown lint now reports no issues.
