@TomassonJW

I design, build and improve systems.

My work moves between audio production, physical spaces, software, AI agents, tools, education and live production. The medium changes; the underlying work doesn't: understand a complex system, find what matters, then make it clearer, more reliable and more usable.

I'm based in Tourcoing, France, where I founded and run Sound Up Studio, a 300 m² professional recording and production space that I designed and built from the ground up.

What I build

Audio & creative systems

Recording, production, mixing, mastering, artistic direction, sonic identity and artist development. I work across the full path from an artistic intention to a finished, usable result.

AI & software systems

Agentic workflows, autonomous product-engineering methods, automation, local AI, tools and infrastructure. I'm especially interested in systems that let people express ambitious intentions in ordinary language without forcing them to think like software architects first.

Physical systems

Acoustics, construction, networking, fabrication, 3D printing, machines and electronics are part of the same practice for me.

Software is one of the materials I build with — not the only one.

Methods & learning systems

I teach, document and design methods intended to turn understanding into practical capability. Good tools and good explanations should both increase what a person can actually do.

Current public work

How I work

I tend to move from ambiguity to working systems:

understand → model → challenge → build → test → refine → document

A few principles recur across very different domains:

  • evidence over assumptions;
  • understanding before abstraction;
  • reversible changes when possible;
  • powerful tools should reduce cognitive load, not merely add capability;
  • reliability requires observable proof;
  • AI should amplify human judgment rather than hide uncertainty.

Background

Before audio became my main professional field, I studied measurement physics, then computing, telecommunications and networks, and later continued into fundamental physics and physical chemistry. I graduated top of my class in both my DUT Mesures Physiques in 2005 and my professional degree in IT, telecommunications and networks in 2006.

I eventually chose to put music at the center of my work, while continuing to code, build and solve technical problems alongside it. In 2024, a game-development and interactive-music program pulled me back into sustained software development.

So the current work around AI, agents and tooling feels less like a career change than a return to an older technical thread — now recombined with two decades of audio, creative work, construction, production, teaching and hands-on systems thinking.

Rather than treating these as separate careers, I increasingly see them as different expressions of the same work: understanding complex environments and building things that make them more capable, coherent and usable.
