Fixes #48.

focus-visible-not-suppressed currently checks for a visible replacement on the focus target itself. That produces a false finding for composite controls that move the focus treatment to their immediate wrapper with Tailwind's has-[:focus-visible]:* pattern.

This keeps the existing same-element behavior and also recognizes ring, outline, border, or shadow replacements on the immediate JSX wrapper. It deliberately does not walk distant ancestors, so unrelated container styles cannot mask a missing focus indicator.

The regression coverage includes the reported wrapper pattern plus negative cases for a non-focusable wrapper using plain focus-visible:* and for a replacement placed on a more distant ancestor.

The ruleset advances to 2026.09.47, with the generated rule catalog and changelog updated accordingly.

Validation passed across the full quality workflow, including CLI/API/web scanner tests, Chromium E2E, the dogfood audit, production build and trace verification, plus the packed CLI matrix on Ubuntu and Windows with Node 22.12 and 26.

Summary by CodeRabbit

  • Bug Fixes
    • The focus visibility check now recognizes qualifying ring, outline, border, or shadow styling on an immediate wrapper when it applies to a focused descendant. It continues to flag cases where the wrapper is not focusable or is farther up the hierarchy, and styling that does not provide a qualifying focus indicator.
  • Documentation
    • Updated the bundled ruleset version to 2026.09.47.

📝 Walkthrough

Walkthrough

The focus-visible rule now recognizes specified replacement styles on a focus target’s immediate JSX wrapper. Three tests cover matching wrapper styles, non-matching wrapper styles, and styles on a more distant ancestor. The bundled ruleset version and its documentation are updated.

The rule checks for ring, outline, border, or shadow styles with has-[:focus-visible]: on the immediate JSX wrapper when the focus target suppresses its outline. Tests cover matching styles, a non-focusable wrapper, and a more distant ancestor. The changelog and rules catalog document the change, and the bundled ruleset version changes to 2026.09.47.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to c4076

The wrapper focus-style change is mergeable after normal checks; no actionable issue remains from this review.

Security Architecture Review

Security architecture risk: 🔵 Low · up to 946a9

The updated focus-indicator check can accept wrapper styles that do not provide a visible focus indicator. This weakens the accuracy of that check, but the review found no established security exposure or cross-system change.

Retained concerns

  • Low · architecture · inferred: The released rule can suppress a missing-focus-indicator finding for an immediate wrapper whose class does not provide a visible replacement. This broadens the scanner’s accepted policy beyond the cases its new regression tests specify.
Security review details

Security Blast Radius

  • inferred — The demonstrated outcome is inaccurate focus-indicator auditing of scanned JSX. The available graph does not establish propagation to the command menu or a security-sensitive sink; its capped selection limits that conclusion.

Trust Boundaries and Controls

  • observed — Project source is parsed as JSX for the audit decision. The new wrapper check examines static class tokens before deciding whether to report outline suppression.

Hardening Proposals

  • proposed — Constrain wrapper recognition to classes that actually supply a visible focus replacement, and verify the negative fixtures against the rule before releasing the new ruleset.
