Game Development Whiteboard is a React prototype for laying out tile-based game scenes. The client includes tile painting, layers, sprites, animation controls, project panels, collaborator cursors, and an AI chat panel.
The browser client builds and can run through Vite. The Express code under server/ is an unfinished Replit-era prototype. It expects PostgreSQL, Replit OIDC, object storage, and an OpenAI API key, and several server route modules are missing from the current repository. The production build and CI therefore cover the client only.
Use Node.js 24:
git clone https://github.com/Tanner-Eischen/GameDevelopmentWhiteBoard.git
cd GameDevelopmentWhiteBoard
npm ci
npm run devVite prints the local URL after startup. Features that call /api, /objects, or /ws need a compatible backend and will not work in the client-only setup.
Create a production client bundle with:
npm run buildThe generated files are written to dist/public.
client/src/components/ Editor panels, canvas, and controls
client/src/store/ Canvas state
client/src/services/ Collaboration client
client/src/utils/ Tile and sprite utilities
server/ Incomplete Express backend prototype
shared/schema.ts Shared database schema
attached_assets/ Source tilesets and sprite art
public/sprites/ Browser-ready sprite sheets
GitHub Actions checks production dependencies for critical advisories, parses every client TypeScript module with npm run lint, and runs npm run build. There is no working automated test suite in the current repository; the removed test commands referenced files that were never checked in.
