SpinyGUI is a work-in-progress Java GUI library with a DOM-like node tree, CSS-inspired styling, a layout and event pipeline, and a backend-neutral core. Its bundled LWJGL/NanoVG renderer is optional: applications may provide their own rendering backend.
It is a new implementation that succeeds Legui.
The public surface is evolving, so treat this wiki as a guide to the checked-in develop branch
rather than as a browser-compatibility promise.
- Getting Started — prerequisites, a first native window, and the core model.
- Running the Demos — runnable examples and what each one proves.
- Styling with CSS — support boundaries and the authoritative property matrix.
- Controls and Inputs — buttons, checkable controls, and input scope.
- Scrolling and Scrollbars — overflow behavior and the painted styling subset.
- XML Event Handlers — optional named bindings for parsed XML.
- LWJGL Application Host — standalone, navigable, and embedded-host composition.
- Contributing — project conventions and verification.
This wiki explains how to use the current library and how to find a supported integration path.
Detailed implementation plans, accepted evidence, benchmarks, and in-progress milestone status
remain in the source repository under docs/.
That separation keeps a user-facing page from presenting an unimplemented plan as a released API.
SpinyGUI deliberately implements bounded subsets of browser-inspired behavior. A CSS token being accepted by the grammar is not, by itself, a guarantee that it is modelled, laid out, painted, or hit-tested. Check Styling with CSS before relying on a feature.
