NotASnake, neither in its latest build nor, to my knowledge, in v1.0 or earlier releases uses telemetry, analytics, advertising ID's or remote tracking.
The game DOES NOT send nor sell any gameplay data, player-earned statistics, achievements, crash reports or system Information to me - the developer - or any third-party.
- IP addresses
- Windows versions, build numbers
- Any sort of Hardware information
- Device/Machine ID's
- Any sort of username or account identifiers
- Gameplay, achievement telemetry
- Usage statistics
- Advertising ID's
- Crash reports
Here is what is actually being stored, locally
NotASnake (as of 3.5.2-p-r1) keeps some information locally so that features such as statistics, achievements, settings and tutorial progress can persist across your game. That includes to gameplay statistics (Stats menu), high scores (Stats and SP Mode Select), achievements (save.txt), settings (save.txt), tutorial status (save.txt) and other relevant game progress.
All of the above-mentioned files with the data are stored locally on your machine in the game's /nasassets/ directory. These files are never shared anywhere, not automatically, and not by the game.
NotASnake also creates local debug logs (babysitter_notes_xxxxxx...) for troubleshooting. These contain (as of 3.5.2-p-r1) timestamps, game/debug events, crash information, file paths and Python-related tracebacks. Again, these logs remain on your computer and are not automatically sent to anyone, unless the user deliberately chooses to share them.
There is no hidden telemetry endpoint, analytics software or background reporting system to the internet in NotASnake
If, at ANY point in time a genuine online gameplay option is added, that collects any sort of data, it will be documented thoroughly for full transparency.
So, your saves are yours to keep. And Stats. And your NotASnake copy. Nobody ain't calling no one. Thanks for reading.
Oh, and very important note! With Physical Edition v1 out... most of the game versions are broken! That is because I had no choice but to use my old laptop, having to re-import all python pips. And the setup.py I used for 90% of the versions i forgot to include 'import pygame'. oops! V2 will be out soon.
PIXXEL - https://github.com/P1XXX4L , game icon art, music, and a beta tester! All shout-outs
Order of updates: v1.0 - v1.1 - v1.2 - v1.2.1 - v1.3 (TheBigOne) - v2.0 - v2.1/2.2 - v2.3 - v2.4 - v2.5 - v2.6 - v3.0 - v3.1 - 3.2 - 3.3 - 3.3.1 - 3.4 - 3.5 - 3.5.1 - PhysicalV1 - 3.5.2-pr1
Versions 1.2.1 and under were only py files, loaded by having to launch them directly with lots of struggles. if somebody wants to compile them into .exe for availability, go for it, but dont expect me to do it (MAKE A PULL)
Important note: you should not unpack the .rar of the game in Program Files/Windows circa v3.0, due to NotASnake's .exe file trying to write debug logs to Windows-important directories, where it cannot write due to not having the right permissions. So the game shits itself and crashes. Desktop and any other directories should work absolutely ok.
