Summary

  • add a checksum-pinned maestro-runner BrowserStack Appium executor without changing the shared Maestro journeys
  • preserve BrowserStack-hosted Maestro as the default and allow the prototype with E2E_BROWSERSTACK_EXECUTOR=maestro-runner
  • collect runner JSON/JUnit/HTML, screenshots, hierarchy, logs, and Appium session metadata

Real-device A/B result

Both paths ran the same four journeys on all four targets at commit 79e3388d0. Times are the Bitrise execution-workflow wall clock, including upload, provider startup, execution, result normalization, and artifact deployment.

Target maestro-runner Appium Hosted Maestro Difference Appium inferred journey passes Hosted journey passes
React Native iOS 8m 15s 8m 00s 15s slower 2/4 4/4
React Native Android 14m 17s 13m 33s 44s slower 1/4 4/4
Kotlin Android 11m 28s 17m 04s 5m 36s faster 2/4 4/4
Swift iOS 10m 43s 9m 58s 45s slower 2/4 4/4

Verdict: the speed result is mixed and the prototype is not reliable enough to replace hosted Maestro. Hosted Maestro passed all 16 journeys; Appium completed no full target suite. Appium failures cluster around hosted checkout field input/discovery, scrolling, React Native Android deep-link bootstrap, and physical-iOS state semantics.

Validation

  • 114 E2E Ruby tests, 407 assertions
  • 23 flows linted with maestro-runner 1.1.24
  • Bitrise config validation
  • BrowserStack-hosted Maestro: 16/16 journeys passed
